    Benjamin Franklin Biography

    Benjamin Franklin was a founding father of the United States of America. He was a leading intellectual of his time. He lived from 1706-1790. Benjamin Franklin was an American polymath who was active as a writer, inventor, scientist, statesman, diplomat, printer, publisher, and political philosopher. He was also the first USA ambassador to France. A drafter and signer of the U.S. Declaration of Independence and the first U.S.  postmaster general.

    An inventor of the lightning rod and bifocals. Benjamin also invented the Franklin stove among other things. He also founded many civic organizations including Philadelphia’s first fire department and the University of Pennsylvania.
