    CHAPTER 1

    The Fire: The Holy Spirit

    (Acts 2:1-4 & 1 Peter 2:9)

Have you ever had an experience so amazing, so unbelievable, that you just couldn’t put it into words? The kind of experience that you tell people, You had to be there!….Well, I had just that kind of experience in 2011. A year filled with ups and downs, much like every other year, except it was in this year that I first felt the Fire.

It happened on May 29, 2011 after the 11:45 a.m. (now 12 noon) service at New Psalmist Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland. Something happened that was extraordinary, to say the least. I will try to explain it the best way I know how. Quite simply, the Fire came down in the middle of the church aisle. Not an actual fire, but a Spiritual Fire. I am talking about the Anointing of the Holy Spirit by Fire. It reads in the Scriptures: He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and Fire (Luke 3:16).

My fellow church members Jewanda, Mary, and I were standing around talking to one another after the church service. I consider us the first group of people in connection to the Fire that came down. We were reflecting on what had been preached that day by our pastor, Bishop Walter S. Thomas, Sr. as we usually do. Service was over so most people were already heading up the aisles towards the exit to go home. However, I wanted to socialize with a few church members before they left. A few members whom I had not yet met, Stephanie, her twelve-year old son Antonio, and her friend Valencia, came up the aisle towards me. I consider them to be the second group of people who became involved in the Anointing of the Holy Spirit by Fire.

Stephanie stopped in front of me and said, "I like your Spirit when you come down the aisle to sow your seed at the altar." During the preaching of the Word, I walk down the aisle towards the altar and sow a seed of one dollar to let the Lord know that I enjoy, understand, and can relate to the message that is being spoken directly from Him, through the heart, mind, and Spirit of the shepherd of our church, Bishop Thomas. Many times I feel like he is speaking directly to me. My seed of one dollar is my way of showing that I can relate to what is being said and that I appreciate the message being shared. Plus, I like to offer the Gift of Encouragement. In the Bible, Romans 12:6-8 states: We all have different gifts, each of which came because of the grace God gave us. The person who has the gift of prophecy should use that gift in agreement with the faith. Anyone who has the gift of serving should serve. Anyone who has the gift to teach should teach. Whoever has the gift of encouraging others should encourage. Whoever has the gift of giving to others should give freely. Anyone who has the gift of being a leader should try hard when he leads. Whoever has the gift of showing mercy to others should do so with joy. I know that it is not easy to preach to a crowd of people who look at you Sunday after Sunday as if to say, Okay bring it on; what do you have to say today? I hope you say what I need to hear, or Hurry up and preach, so that I can say that I went to church today, and get on with my life as usual. So, I try to offer encouragement whenever I can.

But, back to what I was saying about the Fire coming down: After Stephanie told me she liked my Spirit, I thanked her for the compliment. All of a sudden, she started prophesying to me. She told me that my book Anointed with the Holy Spirit would bless a lot of souls. She also said I was going to be speaking to many people. I remind you, I had never met Stephanie before this moment, so I knew something spiritual was taking place. And as Stephanie was prophesying to me, Mary started prophesying
