Foreword

Few generations are presented with the gift of grand discovery.  Of unlimited opportunity.  Ancient explorers, valiant seafarers, and soldiers, to modern-day deep-sea-trekkers and astronauts have embraced this gift. All relied on the prosperity of their society to help realize their dreams and push the boundaries of human accomplishment.  They seized the opportunities of the past. I believe we all share a duty to honor past generations’ accomplishments by seizing our own opportunities.  We then pass our accomplishments to future generations. 

I wrote this book with the hopes of creating a source of inspiration and hope for people.  Portal to the Cryptoverse is more than just a popular science epic crypto guide, it represents a gateway for people to meaningfully connect with crypto.  I feel so strongly about helping others learn about crypto; the mystery and awe of discovery and invention changed my life for the better.  Precisely when I needed it the most. 

Prosperity emerges from the shadow of times without.  Our explorers lived within a gracious epoch of time.  Too many others, both before and after, had zero chance for a new beginning or a new opportunity in life.  Even fewer still, the few people like us, have the chance to experience a global transformation wrapped in an era of advanced technology, like we see in 2022.  The immense gravity of our situation is clear to me. 

We lucky few live during a time of great prosperity and transformation.  A rare period characterized by global connectivity, advanced technology, and digitization. If ever there was a time to get excited about the future, it is now!  Embrace our values and challenge ourselves to realize the tremendous opportunities before us.

A transformative shift is progressing throughout commerce and society.  People are demanding diversity, with equality, in life.  A greater status quo for money and personal finances.  Fair is fair.  Imbalance means deadweight loss.  I served America, honorably, so I have the right to say sorry, Uncle Sam, we are smarter than that. We can do better.  We will do better.

We have come a long way since the time of bazaar markets and the spice trade.  We must continue to advance and improve our economic engine, for all.  Not just the few.  Keep making things better, for more.  We owe it to our ancestors and our children.  They are our legacy and our future.

COVID-19 forced us to face ourselves.  Our work culture and economic engine.  Now the seeds of the future are planted in our efforts to build the new generation of communities.  Modern technology is pervasive, but it did not always exist.  Assuming the present system will forever persist may be naive.  Our way of life is not sacrosanct. Our economy is not impervious.  A future where each individual (free) person holds the key to prosperous change is showing itself.  You just have to know where to look.  Change is upon us.

Is this The Great Resignation or "The Great Reconciliation''?  Did we realize that the endless hierarchy and hustle culture of the pre-pandemic economy were fads?  Unsustainable and exhausting.  Wage disparities and opportunity inequalities proving too heavy for the weight of the pandemic.  Minimum wage = minimum effort.  Quoting a salary based on 40-hours then assigning the employee 60 hours of work a week.  And we wonder where the workers have gone.

The bailouts exposed the financial realities of 21st century American economic culture: overleveraged low-income hard-working families burdened with cash flow requirements of big business and super-wealthy zip codes.  Overworked and underpaid.  But an economic twist emerged from the ashes of 2020: remote work.  Workers of many trades witnessed a significant increase in new opportunities and took advantage.  Go figure.

Adopt to remote ops or starve, corporate America.  Businesses that are successful have great employees, leverage technology, and are highly adaptable.  The internet is practically ubiquitous; great employees, not so much.  Those precious people do not want to be overworked and underpaid.  Unhappy workers quit their jobs. Inflexible, insolvent, impotent businesses be damned.  Not that complicated: businesses and organizations need to adapt to the peoples’ desires or risk losing patronage.

Instead of both businesses and workers resigning to something fresh and new, did we simply accept that our flaws were exposed?  The more forcefully we clamor for perfection, the more imperfect we become.  Our glaring defects broadcast online for all to see.  But from strife and unrest, come acts of resilience and growth.  Closed chapters and abrupt endings of 2021 beget new chances and fresh beginnings of 2022 and beyond.  More hilltops with shining cities, bustling with those aware of the fragility of our way of life, respectful of others’ sacrifices endured.  Now, in the present, we must heed the call.

Part reconciliation, part resignation.  All change.  All opportunities.  Inevitably, all will not prosper.  Because not all who gaze upon an opportunity will recognize it, some will grasp it, and still fewer will hold on.  Attitude, perspective, and character matters.  Ignorance is bliss but strength emerges through trial and the learning process.  Adopting new perspectives and embracing new networks is difficult, but necessary.  Espousing new mental frameworks and building positive relationships, nearly impossible, but required.  Both, however, are much less difficult than facing a future of having fallen behind. That’s a no-go.

Bright new futures exist for the few who possess the strength to grasp and hold onto their dreams.  Great opportunity requires great courage to realize.  That part is up to you.  You bring the attitude and character, this book provides the knowledge, map, and tools.

Portal to the Cryptoverse is the result of practical academic, business, and military experience, bolstered by two business degrees and years of empirical research.  Take the lessons found within the pages of this book seriously, but understand that you must be looking for an opportunity before you can find one.  And crypto opportunities come in many forms.  Different opportunities to benefit from crypto knowledge continue to emerge, so understanding where to start is important.

You should begin your crypto journey here, with this book.  I wrote it to help you understand and, ultimately, trust crypto.  Trust helps drive efforts to improve our country’s crypto technology training and education, so we may widely embrace crypto opportunities.  Prepare for the future of e-commerce to take advantage of these opportunities.

Crypto opportunities are for everyone.  White-collar, blue-collar, or no-collar at all.  Discovering the cryptoverse is now exciting and iterative because of the lessons packed in this book.  But be warned!  Once you catch the ‘crypto-passion’ and once you grasp key crypto concepts, you may never be the same.  In a good way, of course.

Before you can trust crypto and crypto tech, you have to understand why it’s special.  Why it matters to people around the world.  I believe if you take the time to understand how cryptos’ role in our world grows each day, you may discover that crypto can change your life.  As crypto changed mine.

The most important section of the book, no?  Portal to the Cryptoverse – Epic Crypto Guide is about you.  Ok, well technically it’s about an old Army vet, but you get my point.  All the words in all chapters and all the crypto in the world.  About you.  The greatest crypto platforms in the world were made for everyday people, just like you.  So you can take advantage of cryptos’ possibilities.

2022 ushered in a new era of possibilities and challenges to the status quo.  Leaders amongst the readers need to emerge then guide our communities toward greater prosperity.  We are fortunate for those such as Gov. Hutchinson, but we deserve more.  The world isn’t going to wait for us to get our act together, either: we will just have to embrace foreign, well-trained workers snapping up emergent opportunities.  Can you blame them? 

The governor pointed out how other nations educate and train their people on crypto and blockchain, AI and automation, and other advanced technologies.  They’re preparing for the future.  What about us?
