Love Song
The world is vast,
Its people strange,
A bird sings to croon the sunrise,
The beast lows for the moon,
A tree would whisper,
Its song fallen on deaf ears,
No different from the gentle lull of the sea,
But call on a storm,
Not one soul will ignore.
Cry for mercy,
Wounds may mar,
Blood may show,
Because you are not me,
Suffering becomes devotion’s love song,
Because you are not me,
Love is denied.
Little as the mice that scurry,
Beneath leaf and earth,
Dark as the night that rolls in from the West,
Other and uncanny,
With elusive power to woo,
Stars crown my head,
And Death becomes my name,
How sad, how dark,
Love was once my name,
To belong is a grief untold,
To be a stranger a desire,
Left unknown,
Cry for mercy,
Wounds may mar,
Blood may show,
Because you are not me,
Suffering becomes devotion’s love song,
Because you are not me,
Love is denied.
The lowest whore is a greater friend,
Than you who dangles gold,
From poisoned fingertips,
A beast holds more promise,
Than one who claims to be humankind,
The shadow that stalks us in dreams,
A better guard and leader,
Than those who vow to serve,
Death mocks life,
The broken promise,
We all must rewrite.
Cry for mercy,
Wounds may mar,
Blood may show,
Because you are not me,
Suffering becomes devotion’s love song,
Because you are not me,
Love is denied.
The rumbling of an oncoming storm,
Stirs one and all awake,
Time has gone and passed,
All meaning is lost,
All meaning is found,
And from the ashes of the cindered city,
The smell of lilies and corpses,
Permeate the air,
Coat hair and skin,
In the sentiment of a tattoo,
Wild eyes are spared,
A curse, or a gift?
Deny the beast its honored sacrifice,
The beast becomes you.
Cry for mercy,
Wounds may mar,
Blood may show,
Because you are not me,
Suffering becomes devotion’s love song,
Because you are not me,
Love is denied.
Destroy me from within and without,
The futile act will leave you in want,
Call me lame, black, or weak,
Shackle hands and feet,
Or break my heart with betrayal’s kiss,
Remember white
