Hello, and welcome to How Athletes Think: Getting Mentally Fit for Your Best Physical Performance, a course by Scribd Coach. My name is Madhuli Kulkarni.
Resiliency, the power to bounce back from any adversity, is key to an athlete’s mental fitness. Despite all the challenges and hardships, a resilient person tries to stand up again, looking for alternative routes, working on improving, and staying focused. Being mentally fit in this way allows you to push your physical self farther than you knew you could go.
Cricket is a tough mental game that’s full of uncertainty and uncontrollable variables. Who will bat first and who will ball first is decided by a toss. Unless you’re an opening batsman, you don’t know when you will go to bat. If you’re a fielder, you might be in the hot sun for nearly an hour without the ball coming your way, but when it does, you have to be alert enough to make the catch.
The fact that you don’t know what will happen in the next minute makes cricket an exciting game to both play and watch. But before you can play, you need to understand the psychology behind the game.
Your mind is the architect that prepares the blueprint for your performance, and your body executes that plan. If your blueprint is flawed, your execution will be also.
You are what your mind is. If your mind is confused, you are confused. If your mind is anxious, you are anxious. If your mind is focused, you are focused.
To understand the function of our minds, I’ll divide it into two parts: your conscious mind (or outer mind) and your subconscious mind (or inner mind).
