Introduction

It is so amazing how this book was inspired. It was just an ordinary day, and I was waiting in my car because it was too early to clock in for work. I began to feel the presence of God so strongly and I had an open vision. I saw this big wall and it was fortified. Then I saw and heard explosions like an air raid attack and the wall came down. The Lord told me, Those walls are strongholds and like the Walls of Jericho, they will come down! I also saw a big bridge and it was destroyed; it fell. I began to recite a childhood song, "London Bridges falling down, falling down. I sang this song so many times as a child, but it was at that moment, God began to download to me so much revelation. The Holy Spirit began to minister and unveil the hidden gems of other childhood stories and nursery rhymes. The Lord instructed me to write The Allegories of God. It’s a revelatory book that retells popular childhood stories and nursery rhymes with a creative twist by sharing the spiritual, and hidden treasures of wisdom, moral lessons, and encouragement in each story. I pray that you, the reader, that the eyes of your understanding be opened, and that God endows you with wisdom and revelation. Each chapter tells a story with the spiritual meaning and symbolism revealed to the reader. At the end of a chapter, there will be reflections that highlight the key points of the story and for the reader to ponder in greater depth. So, with all that said, Are You Ready? and Are You Excited?"

Chapter One

Storyteller

Before I go any further, I feel led to lay the foundation of this book by giving you an understanding of the definition of a few words. After all, Proverbs 3:5 says, And with all thy getting get understanding. According to OxfordLanguage.com, a story is defined as an account of imaginary or real people and events told for entertainment. Or an account of past events in someone’s life or the evolution of something. In other words, a story can be called a narrative, tale, account, or history. So now you can see a storyteller is someone that tells stories. A few synonyms for storyteller are narrator, author, writer, and novelist. Telling stories is so significant, cultural, and historical. Whenever we would have family gatherings, the older folks would tell stories. I found these stories so fascinating because I would learn about my family history and gain a sense of who I am. Before there were books, stories would be told, and that person would be identified as the tribe, family or community historian, or oracle. These narratives would be passed on from generation to generation. My mother is called the walking, talking historian because she knows how everyone is connected by blood. She tells informative and exciting stories from her childhood and family life as a cotton picker and the Jim Crow era.

I remember when I was in the first grade and after doing our lessons, we would have story time. The teacher would sit on a small chair or stool and all of us kids would gather around in a circle. The teacher would either sing or recite a nursery rhyme or read from a book. She would use animated facial expressions, body antics, and different vocal sounds to keep us kids engaged. I had an aunt that could tell a story in a way that everyone would be in tears from laughing. She was a good storyteller. It is a proven fact that after an hour or two the listener is no longer listening to the speaker. Thus, the sign of an expert storyteller is someone that knows the following:

Knows their audience

Engages their audience by keeping their attention

Uses facial expressions, vocal tones, and is animated.

Discloses the intent of the story and its ending.

Jesus was an expert at telling stories and He would do so with parables. What are parables and why did Jesus speak in them? As stated in OxfordLanguage.com¹, parables are a simple story used to illustrate a moral or spiritual lesson, as told by Jesus in the Gospels. A parable isn’t true nor is it historical. It’s not a fairytale but is accurate to life itself. Parables use the imagination by using realistic situations. The Bible is full of parables. Examples are The Sower and The Good Samaritan. Jesus told stories that related to its time and often spoke about nature, farming, and plants. Thus, by using this approach, He was keeping the hearer’s attention. Jesus spoke in parables to:

Captivate His audience.

Conceal the truth.

Make it relevant to the people.

To illustrate the truth in an illustrative way and prophecies.

The truth, to make it relevant to the people, to illustrate the truth and prophecies.

To help the hearers retain the meaning of the stories because it required the use of their imagination.

Reveal the hidden things of their hearts, dealt with sin, and hopefully caused one to repent.
