Just Pieces Of A Man - Kokumo Noxid
DEDICATED TO O’SHAI DIXON
These poems were written during a two-year period of lockdown, due to the Pandemic. This is reflection on what could’ve been, but mostly how things are. This period required inner strength and most importantly, something to hold on to. This is ultimately a dedication to all my sons, but mainly my youngest who kept me going, kept me inspired to live. There is no greater joy in knowing that your life is worthwhile, because you’ve got responsibilities and those that look to you for guidance and I-tection.
For all that I give thanks to Jah Rastafari, for guidance and I-tection and continued will to live and love life to the fullest.
Living has never stopped anyone from dying...so why not live?

WHEN THE VACCINATION COMES
When the vaccination comes
You will be caught inside
With the freedom to go outside
Being denied
Without being injected
Untested, with no known side effects
You can’t gather in public places
Because everyone might be infected
When the vaccination comes
There will be no talks of 5G masts
No point wearing masks
For fear of exposure
There will be no more pleasure
They’ve terminated all leisure
Activities will be a virtual reality
When the vaccination comes
There will be no quarantine
Once you agreed
There’s no guarantee
You won’t be cured
Because the disease is the portion
Developed through incubation
Now WHO will answer questions
When the vaccination comes
Pharmaceutical companies
And Bill Hates foundation
Will make monies
From using you like laboratory monkeys
Presidents and prime ministers
Will continue to be lackeys
Making false speeches through press conference
When the vaccination comes
They’ll be talks about microchips
And crypto currency
Creating a cashless society
There will be heartless laws
Lawful clauses, with flaws
To deny you liberty
Leaving the streets
To tear gas and rubber bullets
When the vaccination comes
Posthumous celebrations
Will take centre stage
With no outright outrage
We’re all contagiously contained
To feel the same
But self-distancing will remain
When the vaccination comes
It won’t change the colour of our skin
But we may be able
To shift the paradigm
Even though a mask covers the grins
There’s still an enemy within
When the vaccination comes
Revolution will be mandatory
It won’t be a re-run
From a rehearsal practice
It will be active
When the vaccination comes
When the vaccination comes
When the vaccination comes
There will be no need
For televised commercials
Selling us lies
VIRTUAL REALITY
The world is just catching up
But we’ve long had enough
Of being locked up
Serving a life sentence for a joint
Coke will get you a night
If you’re white
Police brutality designed
To be the mastermind, behind
Oppressing black minority
The verdict is always guilty
Their knees don’t kneel to pray
They’re planted firmly
In the necks by preys
So, we’re left choked
Only a few remain awoke
To know there are different strokes
For white folks
There’s no equal yoke
All that marching, disappeared with the smoke
All that dream
Blocked by a screen
Silenced by the screams
Of a mother’s tears
Shedding, as she begs
For the safe return of her son
A trip to the corner store
Isn’t safe anymore
Even shopping is a risk
To land a cuff on your wrist
A quick draw from the hips
Of a white supremacist
Is a straight aim,
On the story twist-ed again
To fit the false narrative
That a weapon was present
Prosecutor calls the evidence solid
No guiltiness on their conscience
Trapped in a bubble
That becomes a prison
Is the new attraction
Seems like the option given
Lacks reasons, the focus
Is serving the purpose
Of those who see us
In this virtual reality
Where freedom exist in a hologram
An algorithm programmes
STILL RUNNING IN CHAINS
Hands on the trigger
They’ve got a bullet for a niggah
That’s the American way
‘O say can’t you see’
The prison system was designed for we
Reaping profits, filling their pockets
That’s why they allowed gang culture to flourish
So, they can continue to benefit
Nothing is scarier than the American Dream
Locked in a nightmare it seems
So, you wake up napping
When they come knocking
Caught you doping up on crack-in jokes
Because for black folks, opportunities are far reaching
But it easier to get into the penal system
So, even if you kneel
You’re still a victim
Because the justice league
Isn’t the same as the football league
You make the money
To make her please
Until she’s ready to leave
Taking it all for child support
Because they’ve already planned your downfall
Trying to climb up Jacob’s Ladder
And when you drop
They’ll find another
Lining up behind each other
Brother, where art thou
Are you your brother’s keeper
Or just a fortune seeker
Blinded by the curved ball coming your way
Sankofa should be your guide today
Even if their college
Is your place of knowledge
Until you learn that our ways were solid
Before they rendered it invalid
Can’t you see the captors are the same...ones
Got you caught up in the games
Still running in chains
Even if there’s no dogs chasing
America is still a slave system
