means Well Said
; a combination of the most important verses from the Vedas, sung by Rishis for a single deity is called a Suktam
. This particular booklet expounds Shri Suktam, and its presiding deity, Goddess Mahalakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth and Prosperity.
Through dedicated practice of this Sukta, a person can fulfill his wishes and find all-round success in life. Today’s lifestyle makes it difficult for busy individuals to study the Vedas, and hence this is the first installment in a series of booklets that will present the hidden gems from the Vedas in the form of various Suktas that will enable you to perform a Homam (havan) by yourself.
The Vedas are the most sacred texts of Hinduism and considered the abode of Gods. In the beginning there were 3 Vedas—Rig, Yajur, and Sama; these came into being with the creation of this universe to provide a glimpse into the past, present, and the future. It was later that the great sage Vedavyas composed the fourth Veda, known as Atharva Veda; combining the verses from the original three Vedas.
Amongst the many Vedic hymns, Shri Suktam is found in the Rig Veda and Atharva Veda known to bestow complete progress through the grace of the Goddess Mahalakshmi; known as the Goddess of Wealth, Mahalakshmi’s grace bestows wealth, prosperity, prestige, health, family, friends, associates, and fame.
These are the 8 facets of Mahalakshmi; known as Ashta Lakshmi.
Aadi Lakshmi—the primal mother goddess
Dhan Lakshmi—goddess of material wealth
Dhanya Lakshmi—goddess of good harvest and grains
Gaja Lakshmi—goddess of power and strength
Santaan Lakshmi—goddess of off-springs and progeny
Veer Lakshmi—goddess of courage and strength
Vijay Lakshmi—goddess of victory
Aishwarya Lakshmi—goddess of comfort and luxury
