Shannon McRoberts

Shannon McRoberts writes epic fantasy and urban fantasy books while living in the rolling hills of Kentucky.   Shannon is a lover of all kinds of fantasy but enjoys watching her collection of favorite shows like Xena, Buffy, Firefly, Game of Thrones, and Farscape.  When she’s not busy with taking care of her family, binge watching Netflix, or making fantasy art, she is at her computer weaving myths and magic featuring women of grit and steel.

Damn, Just finished this book of poetry by an author I really enjoy, and boy did she leave her heart bloody on the floor. This book of poetry is open, raw, and honest. Beautifully written.

Requiem For Dead Flowers - Shannon McRoberts

Alone

Alone.

That’s all I want to be

Except it’s not.

I’ve just learned to make the best of what I got-

Which is nothing.

––––––––

I see the empty promises you make

The obligatory smile

The curt nod.

But in the end, I’m not part of your tribe

Just an outsider looking inside.

––––––––

I’m that puzzle piece

Cut a little too jagged to fit in

The one you never acknowledge as a friend.

––––––––

I’m the person you need when you fall

But once I help you stand

You let go of my hand

Leaving me alone

To watch you walk away.

Only Time

The only time we had

Was the time we stole

In between the monotony of the day.

––––––––

Now you are on a new path

I am left behind—forgotten aftermath

While you live a new life of exciting adventure.

Rock

You were supposed to be my rock

Anchoring me against the storm

Instead you became a wave

Washing me up on the shore.

––––––––

The hollowness of your promises

Rings in my ears

The heaviness of your lies

Crushes me into the dirt.

––––––––

All that time wasted

But to what gain?

Was there ever a reason

Or was it just to entertain?

––––––––

Are you better off now without me?

Or are you as broken as I–

Waking up every day to ask yourself why.

Sadness

Sadness permeates my bones

For I am truly alone.

Did you ever love me

Or was it an alternative reality?

––––––––

Memories spin and twist

Was our whole affair kismet?

Or were you simply a dream

I no longer have?

––––––––

I wonder how far

I could have gone

If I turned left

And avoided your siren song?

Another Week

Another week

Come and gone

Another reminder

That I am alone

––––––––

Funny how they need you

When their world is falling apart

Funny how they forget you

When
