STATE OF PLAY

Welcome to this special section that celebrates the states, capitals and other well-known cities that make up this great country, America the Beautiful! (Apologies to all the U.S. territories out there --we'll get you next time!) Grab a pencil and some apple pie and see how many trivia questions, wordplay challenges, and picture puzzles you can correctly solve about these United States of America. Good luck! Answers can be found on page 76.

FIRST & LAST

Each of the following lists labeled A through I is a ranking of all U.S. states from 1–50 using a certain criteria or theme. How-ever, each list has been folded so that state positions 5–46 cannot be seen. Your mission is to determine the theme of each list as well as its first and last state, given the other information therein. Lists generally get more difficult as you progress.
