About this ebook

This is a devotion book I composed after the death of a dear friend who inspired me when he said to me with a dying breath, "Miss Melba, read to me that verse where God says He will go with me through the waters." And so, I read him Isaiah 43:1-3.

    Claimed by God!

A devotional book based on God’s words in Isaiah 43

Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your body. (I Corinthians 6:19-20)

    Introduction

The Old Testament book of Isaiah was purposed in the life of Israel—and today’s believers—as a warning from God against failure with Him and as a wanting for believers to be encouraged by the fact that despite past failures we still can be found faithful to Him. However, the choice of being faithful is ours. God will not make that choice for us. He will do awesome acts to induce us, to inspire us, and to encourage us to be faithful to Him. But He will NOT do our faithfulness for us! For, He has already created us in His image, honored us with His so love, mercy, grace, and forgiveness … and demonstrated what extreme faithfulness looks like (Genesis 3:21-24; John 3:16-18).

The Old Testament book of Isaiah is devoted to God’s wanting for believers and, really, all peoples to understand and to stand under His banner declaring we are faithfully His people!

But Isaiah is also devoted to God’s warnings to believers that failure to be faithful to Him will bring dire consequences. His bottom-line (foundational fact) is that He laid claim to mankind in The Beginning … despite his and her failures. Then, He renewed that claim through willing believers such as Seth, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, the nation of Israel; through His Son’s birth, ministry, death, and resurrection; through His promise that one day, His Son would again return to the earth; through His Holy Scripture; and through His Holy Spirit! Therefore, every believer has pointedly been shown how they must grow in faithfulness to Him. And, that faithfulness is NOT measured merely by their claim of access to Him. It is measured most meaningfully by His claim upon them/us (John 6:44, 64-65). No one comes to me [Jesus is speaking] unless the Father who sent me draws him …. (John 6:44)

    Exodus 33

Isaiah 43 is but one of God’s wells of living water (John 4:10) within His word that defines both His messages and His acts on our behalf. It urges believers to focus on God’s claim upon their hearts and lives—not merely our claim upon Him. It begs us to observe His words and acts that dwell in our understanding of His history with all people and in our lives this very day … so that we might see and hear Him exercising His claim upon our lives. Recognizing His exercise of His claim, our response should be to respond faithfully to Him … in awe.

But, before we move to Isaiah I call you to first visit Exodus 33. Exodus 33 is that chapter after Moses had been up on Mount Sinai to receive the
