INTRODUCTION
I could not believe the boldness of it. So bold that the fact of it being videoed meant nothing to Officer Derek Chauvin. He appeared to be extremely comfortable with his behavior. His behavior gave the appearance as if this was normal. While this entire event is being captured on video before Americans, and eventually citizens from other countries, George Floyd, an African American man, was murdered right before America’s eyes. You can easily hear this 46-year-old man crying out I can’t breathe!
and begging for his deceased mother as his life slowly drifts away.
Officer Derek Chauvin, a murderer, with his knee pinned on the neck of Mr. Floyd, didn’t flinch, didn’t show compassion or any mercy, empathy, or sympathy. It was as though Mr. Chauvin was in a trance as he’s performing this heinous crime. His demeanor appeared comfortable, and as though these actions were natural to him. His mannerisms gave you the impression that he was extremely mentally and emotionally disconnected from what he was doing to Mr. Floyd. This made me ask myself the question: Was God allowing Mr. Chauvin to put such emphasis and clarity on this horrific act? Was this the proof for those who never believed things like this were actually happening in America? Was God revealing this on such a level in hopes that ultimately this would give them clarity without a reasonable doubt? If someone couldn’t accept the fact of police brutality against black Americans after seeing this video, you would either have to be blind or in denial. Why did I say God allowed,
you’re probably asking? I believe that God, the creator, is in control over both good and evil. God is not evil, but with His permission, He allows evil to transpire for whatever purpose.
This event reminded me of the story in the Bible in the Book of Genesis, chapter 27, which gives you the story of Jacob and Esau, the sons of Isaac. In this story Issac’s wife Rebekah was barren, but with prayer became pregnant with twins, which jostled in her womb. When Rebekah inquired of the Lord why this jostling was occurring, the Lord told Rebekah that two nations were in her womb, and that they would be separated and the older would serve the younger. The firstborn was Esau and then Jacob. Because Esau was the firstborn he received the birthright and would receive Isaac’s blessings near death. Eventually Isaac became old and no longer had vision. He knew the time was near, so he gave Esau, the older son, instructions before he gave him his blessings. As he gave Esau the instructions, his wife Rebekah, the mother of the two sons, overheard the conversation and went and instructed the younger son, Jacob, the very same instructions, to deceive Isaac, her husband, so that Jacob would get the blessings and not Esau. Jacob went along with the plan, and Rebekah even instructed him to cover his body with certain garments and the scent of
