Stephany's life changed dramatically in the fall of 2008. The professional contract and business writer was unable to find the senior manager job she expected to easily find after her relocation to Atlanta, Georgia. The move was for family reasons and a little sooner than expected but was a part of her personal life plan. Refusing to succumb to the heavy disappointment of not advancing her career in a city with such promise, Stephany struggled to understand purpose behind sudden and unexpected life changes. When her oldest son asked, 'why don't you just write a book? Do what you love to do?', after a few weeks of thought, she decided to give it a shot.  She loved to write and realized that one of the reasons she succeeded as a proposal writer was because of her ability to 'create programs and program designs' ---so effectively that they were loved by her business clients and convincingly presented to and funded by grant sources! From inception to publication, Stephany worked for four years on her first novel, The Master's Plan, A Novel About Purpose. When thinking about how much she continually enjoys reading her debut novel, she writes, "I still laugh at all my favorite chapters and have yet to decide who is my favorite or least liked character. It's amazing! I was able to spin a tail around two frameworks that have had a major influence on my life: church and government politics. In writing The Master Plan, I was reminded of what a blessed life I have had and that despite what appeared to be very dismal circumstances, I was able to use my creativity and love of writing in a different way. Truly, I can see and believe, it was all part of a master plan."

to whether she should answer her cell. Her overnight bag already hung dangerously low on her left shoulder; her purse weighed down her right side; an onlooker might assume one leg was shorter than the other. One glance at her stilettos suggested 'wrong answer'. 

With a lot of luck and perfect traffic flow on I75-N, she'd make it to Nashville with only an hour to get dressed. The Bluebird Cafe staff had no tolerance for late arrivals. Besides, she wanted to get there before Shawn and the guys. Nyla and Nicole were already at the hotel enjoying the Jacuzzi. They’d been texting her all afternoon; not understanding that she had to finish up one last memo for her boss before she left.

Angelica tapped her key fob to open her trunk, depositing her travel bags neatly, and  slammed the door a tad bit too hard. She mumbled, Dang! Watch it Angelica. Blue Lady's gonna get you. Three and a half years of payments are staring you in the face.

Angelica tapped her start button eager to get started. Out of habit, she searched in her hobo bag for her sunglasses. Once on, peered over the top of them realizing a storm had appeared out of nowhere. She sighed but her spirit brightened when she heard Bill Withers' melodious reminder, 'Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone', her cell phone ringtone. Got that Shawnee? She dismissed the call and decided to return it once she made it to the highway. She would also feel better checking in with Nicole if she had some miles under her belt.

As the gates to her development closed behind her clanging with a 'ciao', Bill Withers chimed, 'Anytime she goes away'.

Oh darn, maybe it’s Shawn or one of the guys. I better answer this.

Hey! I'm on my way...running a few minutes late. Where are you?

Angelica?

Mother?

CHAPTER ONE

Calm down Blue Lady, Hear me out...

ANGELICA MASON’S FATHER’S

medical crisis slammed his daughter's psyche, causing her to feel as though her back encroached upon a brick wall jarring every vertebra in her spine. Angelica, certified and respected project manager—self-promoted, no job too big or small—now starred in the dubitable roles of personal assistant, chef, chauffeur, and housekeeper of the Mason household. She was shocked to learn that her cadre of project manager credentials, certifications, and awards underscored her lack of preparedness for this unforeseen change of duties. Each day she discovered another entrenched household management mystifying trade secret. One that further emphasized her personal weaknesses and deficient skill set.

Rising daily at five o’clock a.m., granted her the solitude essential for her survival of each twenty-four-hour work shift. Her daily caretaker schedule allowed for three, 30-minute breaks. She jogged then caught up on her emails with her first cup of coffee.  She then showered, threw on her yoga sweats and tee for the day, and had breakfast on the table for her parents by seven.

She woke each morning as jittery as a child who had not studied for the test of the day and accepted without reservation that before day's end, she'd earn another D from her mother accompanied by Marilyn Mason's verbal slap: Sweetie, I don't understand why you make things so hard for yourself.

Her father's A+ often tailgated her mother's less than satisfactory assessment. Honey, I had a great day today! How could we handle all this without you?

Working with a C+ average accosted her competitive spirit. Angelica's inability to forecast whether her immediate world would be hit by a cyclone, hurricane or a much welcome, but periodic sun shower weakened and unbalanced her equilibrium. A rare rainbow might illuminate the dull grey landscape of Angelica's life every great now and then. The overcast in-house clouds trounced her larger than life, conquer all essence, tainting the natural flow of her logic and reasoning.

Against her better judgment, Angelica broke her serenity rule.  She needed to return her boss Luke Evans' call before the start of her morning shift and as soon as he arrived at the Smoothville, Georgia City Hall. So she skipped her morning jog, showered, and collected the heart healthy ingredients for her dad’s breakfast. 

She dreaded this call. She’d ignored Luke’s emails filled with endless pleas for her planned return date and knew he’d push her for a specific date. One she’d be unable to give. Based on his daily schedule, she had another ten minutes or so. She doubted that his routine had changed during her family emergency leave. Once her boss dipped his Smoothville Stetson in acknowledgement of City Hall security guard, Jamison Johnson's Good morning' Mr. Mayor, it's good to see you, Sir', Luke's day officially began.

And each morning, without fail, staff and visitors alike lined up to greet the Mayor within seconds of his arrival. They all, women included, showcased their Smoothville Stetsons tapping their brims as the mayor passed.

The mayoral salutation
