Chapter 1

She was actually a pretty girl.

But her shyness was crippling.

Eve knew that she was missing out on life, but she just couldn't bring herself to be more outgoing. What am I going to do? She lamented quietly in the privacy of her room. More a sanctuary than privacy she admitted as another gloomy shadow hovered over her mood.

Sanctuary indicated a place of security and hiding, whereas privacy was a totally different scenario, privacy implied that she needed some quiet escape from the presence of others, tranquil time alone. I get plenty of that. She shook her head and sighed, she wouldn't mind being in a position where she felt the need to escape from people for a while... but that was something that had never happened.

She had tried to make friends. On several occasions. But she always felt uncomfortable, her tongue tied, her knees shook, her palms became clammy with sweat.

Well, you don't get it from us! her mother had stated, and she had been correct, both of her parents were confident people, her hair stylist mother talked constantly, in the salon she was always surrounded with friends and clients, and her father was a lecturer... not a profession that was very tolerant of the terminally shy.

So where do I get it from? She asked... but there was no definitive answer. She simply was! The finger couldn't be pointed to any weak link in her family.
