#1 The body of the girl was found in a flowerbed near the northern hills. She had been strangled, and her neck was surrounded by a line of dark, purplish bruises. She was small and thin, and she could not have lived more than fifteen or sixteen years.
#2 Salerno believed that the girl had been dumped there deliberately, not tossed or dropped. He thought that two men had carried her from a car. The ice plant next to the curb had been pushed out of place, and the dirt beneath it had been freshly disturbed.
#3 Salerno went to talk to the Koehns, who had not heard anything during the night. They told him that they slept like logs. He then went to interview everyone on Alta Terrace. It was a peaceful street.
#4 Angelo Buono, the killer, was wiry and had Sicilian coloring. He was kind to animals and had a way with the ladies. He was bored that evening, so he went through the house checking for dust.

#1
The body of the girl was found in a flowerbed near the northern hills. She had been strangled, and her neck was surrounded by a line of dark, purplish bruises. She was small and thin, and she could not have lived more than fifteen or sixteen years.
#2
Salerno believed that the girl had been dumped there deliberately, not tossed or dropped. He thought that two men had carried her from a car. The ice plant next to the curb had been pushed out of place, and the dirt beneath it had been freshly disturbed.
#3
Salerno went to talk to the Koehns, who had not heard anything during the night. They told him that they slept like logs. He then went to interview everyone on Alta Terrace. It was a peaceful street.
#4
Angelo Buono, the killer, was wiry and had Sicilian coloring. He was kind to animals and had a way with the ladies. He was bored that evening, so he went through the house checking for dust.
#5
Angelo’s cousin, Kenneth Bianchi, came to visit him. They went into the house together. Kenneth was twenty-six and more fashion-conscious than his cousin. He wore a three-quarter-length brown leather coat, jeans, and earth shoes. His dark hair was freshly permed.
#6
Angelo and Kenny went scamming in Hollywood, picking up a random girl and bringing her back to his house. They planned to have sex with her, but she got pregnant.
#7
The streets of Hollywood were lined with hooker-crowded bars and clubs, which was the easiest place in L. A. to find prostitutes or boys. The only living reminder of the past was the annual Santa Claus Parade, which looked good on television.
#8
On October 30, 1977, Buono and Bianchi were cruising Hollywood Boulevard looking for girls to pick up. They spotted a small girl standing alone on the sidewalk. They drove past her and turned left, heading around the block once more.
#9
Angelo pulled into Carney’s driveway. The girl came up to his window, and they talked. Then the girl went around to the passenger side and got in next to Angelo. They sat chatting for a bit until the traffic thinned.
#10
The police brought in a girl who said she was 15 years old. She was easy to hold down. They blindfolded her, took out the foam stuff, and taped it over her eyes.
#11
Bianchi and Angelo returned to the girl, who was now completely naked except for her underwear. Bianchi removed her bra and Angelo her pants and underpants. Then they put the handcuffs back on her.
#12
When Bianchi went into the spare bedroom, he found Angelo on top of the girl, who was lying on her back with her legs up. The tape had been removed from her mouth, and the orange rag was on the bed next to the wall. He took a picture of them.
#13
Angelo brought in the girl’s slacks and underpants, and prepared to hang her. He explained that he would put a plastic bag on her head, cutting off her air supply. When he put the bag on her head, that was when Bianchi should sit on
