#1 The Squadron was 150 kilometers into Iraq when they came across the herd of goats. The nearest animals were a hundred yards away, but with every second they seemed to be getting closer. Steve had to assume the other sentries had heard the goats, but didn’t see them.

#2 The decision to kill the goat-herder was up to Steve, and he had to make it in a split second. He had no idea how long he'd spent on stag, and he couldn't risk making a slightest movement that would draw the goat-herder's eye.

#3 Steve was waiting for the kid to lead his herd in the wrong direction so he could ambush them. But the closest goat began to walk towards him, seemingly making a beeline for his place of hiding.

#4 The billy-goat came to a stop at the very lip of the wadi, and stared down at him with dumb curiosity. It had seen or sensed him, and was chewing on its cud. Steve aimed the IR laser torch at the goat’s eyes, and began to wonder if the animal was so brainless as to not feel any pain.
