Prisoner of Love - Kae Galla

    Prologue

    Luna

New home, new pack, new school...new life. All at once and all because my parents decided to be nomads. Wolves aren’t meant to be nomads, we’re pack animals by nature. Even in human form, we crave the connection with our packmates, with our alpha. I’ll never understand why my parents would choose to live the way they do.

Alpha, I can’t thank you enough for accepting me into your pack, I say, with my head bowed respectfully.

No young pup, on the verge of their awakening, should be living the nomadic life. I can’t believe your parents waited so long to petition one of the local packs to take you in, Alpha Sax says, barely containing his anger.

My wolf whimpers at the intensity of the command and power in his voice. Even as a newly initiated pack member, the urge to submit to his authority is instinctual. My heart races as I admit the truth. Actually, Alpha, I’m the one who sent in the petition. My, uh...my parents didn’t believe I needed to join a pack just because my awakening is coming. They believed that I would be fine with them there to help me through it. My voice trembles as I speak. What if he turns me away now that he knows the truth?

"They what?!" This time, I brace myself for the intensity of his authority.

Swallowing past my nerves, I hesitate before elaborating. Th-they said that just because I’m turning sixteen and my wolf will be surfacing for the first time, it doesn’t mean I’ll need anyone else other than them. As my parents, they believe their parental authority will be enough if something goes wrong during my first shift. They also don’t think I’ll find my true mate in a pack. According to them, I’m destined to be a nomad because I’m not as fast or as strong as other shifters...Once they realized what I’d done, they disowned me. Said I was ungrateful and that if I wanted a pack so badly, then I didn’t need them in my life. I’m on my own.

Growling, Alpha Sax takes several deep breaths before unclenching his jaw to speak. "No one...No one in this pack is ever on their own. You’re one of us now. Your pack will help you through this, no matter what."

After that, Alpha Sax didn’t say much more, only enough to direct me to my new room in the pack house and to let me know where and when to go to class the next week.

The pack house is huge. There have to be at least 100 bedrooms/suites, multiple studies, living areas and kitchens, as well as an infirmary, everything a pack could ever need. Most of the rooms remain empty, but ready to be occupied by any member of the pack as the need arises. The pack lands occupy hundreds of acres that the pack is free to roam in wolf or human form. I can’t wait for the day I’ll be able to run with the pack through the woods, under the full moon.

Each shifter is born with their wolf deep inside, but they are unable to call their wolf form forward until their sixteenth birthday. Once our wolf emerges for the first time, we are able to shift at will. There is a possibility
