I jiggled my key in the door, frustrated that the lock was sticking yet again. After a long day at work, the last thing I wanted to do was fight with my own house. I eventually got the door open, stepping inside.

I'm home, I called out, waiting for a response.  I looked downstairs to see Gia poking her head around the corner.

Hey, she said.

Is Ben home yet? I asked her.

I don't think so, if he is I didn't hear him, she said before retreating back into her bedroom. I sighed - he must have been at work late again. I was surprised Gia was home so early - usually she stayed out late to study. Ben and I had only owned our home for three months and decided to get a roommate for the first little while to cover some of the expenses. We lucked out with Gia - she was quiet, spent a lot of time at school, and I knew she'd be finished school this spring and would move out shortly after. She was just shy - in the two months she had lived here she had only eaten dinner with me and Ben a handful of times. I wish she would talk to us a bit more, but I guess it was better for her to be too shy than overly friendly.

I kicked off my shoes, heading upstairs to Ben and I's bedroom. I stripped out of my work clothes, sighing with relief as the cold air hit my skin. My bathrobe was hanging on the closet door - I grabbed it and put it on, not ready to confine myself in clothes again just yet. I picked up my phone
