About this ebook
Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book.
#1 I am brought into a restricted area where the US House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence meets. The walls are paneled in dark wood, and the air smells old and stale. The guards confiscate our phones and other electronics, and give us numbered tickets.
#2 I was in Washington to testify about how Cambridge Analytica, a military contractor, developed psychological warfare tools for the American alt-right. I had brought with me evidence that Facebook’s data was weaponized by the firm.
#3 I was a whistleblower, and the result was the largest data crime investigation in history. I provided evidence that tied Cambridge Analytica to Donald Trump, Facebook, Russian intelligence, international hackers, and Brexit.
#4 I was called before Parliament for a live public hearing, and I gave my story to the world. Every screen was a mirror reflecting it back at me. I began to receive threats, so I had to hire bodyguards to protect me.

I was called before Parliament for a live public hearing, and I gave my story to the world. Every screen was a mirror reflecting it back at me. I began to receive threats, so I had to hire bodyguards to protect me.
#5
I grew up in a family with two doctors. I was the eldest, and when I was eleven, I was diagnosed with two rare conditions that made me wheelchair-bound. People treated me differently because of my wheelchair.
#6
I began to realize that the things I was experiencing were not simply personal issues, but also political issues. I decided to become political. I began attending public forums and speaking out about the issues I was living through.
#7
I spent the summer of 2007 in Montréal, hanging out in hacker spaces frequented by French Canadian techno-anarchists. They tended to gather in converted industrial buildings with concrete floors and plywood walls, in rooms decorated with retro tech like Apple IIs and Commodore 64s.
#8
I began to learn about the Obama campaign’s use of data, and how they used it to power their marketing strategies. I was fascinated by how
