I answered the door, took one disgusted look at the men in black, and yelled for my parents.

Storming up to my second-floor, totally-cool—but that didn’t help right now—bedroom, I threw myself on the bed, grabbed my earbuds, and hit play for my favorite track-du-jour. Knowing my FBI parents were going to be abandoning me—yet again—to take on another assignment, didn’t improve my already depressed state. After all, it’s not every day a girl gets dumped twice.

No! I know what you’re thinking and I was not cheating on anyone. My boyfriend, Dillon, was the cheater. And my supposedly-best girlfriend, Shawnelle, was the cheatee. So, it feels like she dumped me, too, only I just found out today.

I know, I know, it all sounds like a bad movie, but hey, it’s my story and I’m calling it like I saw it, or felt it really, like a punch in the gut. It’s truer than I could have ever imagined or believed about either of them, but I saw them all right. If I hadn’t been walking around the stadium picking up trash (that’s another story) due to my own idiocy, I would have never caught them looking oh-so-cozy under the bleachers. . . .

Someone was pounding on my door and yelling my name. Oh . . . Mom. I got up, expecting to be in trouble for something (trouble just seems to find me, but it was usually harmless trouble), yanked out my earbuds, and opened the door.
