Delaware Driver’s Practice Tests - Ged Benson

    Introduction

First of all, thank you for choosing this book. As you work through it, you'll find a variety of questions to help you prepare for the DMV test. The questions are based on the information in the Driver's Manual of your state and each one is designed to help you better understand the material.

The best way to use the questions in this book is by practicing them. You can do that by following these steps:

Take a diagnostic test so you may quickly detect gaps in your driving knowledge and obtain a rough estimate of how much you know about driving rules.

Take the practice tests from beginning to end without stopping.

After you have finished, review all of your incorrect answers and read the explanations provided, in the answer key, in the back of this book.

Join the Facebook group and share questions or doubts with other students.

Remember, the more you practice, the better you'll perform on the real DMV exam.

In order to help you practice for your DMV test, each question has an answer and a corresponding explanation. In some cases, more than one answer might seem correct. In these cases, there will be explanations, after all of the possible responses, to help you understand why those answers are wrong and the other one is correct.

    Correct Answer to pass 12

    Question 1 - Diagnostic Test

The hazard zones around trucks and buses, where accidents are more prone to occur, are referred to as

    ▢ no-zones

    ▢ danger zones

    ▢ stop zones

    ▢ zero-zones

    Question 1 - Diagnostic Test

    (A) Do not congregate in a No-Zone! No-Zones are vast regions around trucks, buses, and other large vehicles where cars can disappear into blind spots or get so near that the truck driver's ability to stop or move safely is hampered. There are no-zones in the vehicle's front, back, and sides. It is impossible to totally avoid the No-Zones of a huge vehicle. However, do not stay in a No-Zone for any longer than is absolutely necessary to safely pass the vehicle. Never, ever tailgate a truck.

    Question 2 - Diagnostic Test

Is it legal in Delaware to turn left at a steady red signal?

    ▢ No

▢ Yes, but only when turning left onto a one-way street

▢ Yes, unless a sign says otherwise

▢ Yes, but only when turning left from one one-way street onto another one-way street

    Question 2 - Diagnostic Test

    (D) When moving from one one-way street to another one-way street in Delaware, you can turn left on a steady red light unless there is a No Turn on Red sign posted there. Before turning, you must still come to a complete stop and yield to all pedestrians and traffic.

    Question 3 - Diagnostic Test

What does a double solid white line indicate?

▢ The line divides lanes driving in the same direction, although crossing the line is banned

▢ The line separates opposing lanes, and crossing it is banned

▢ The line divides lanes driving in the same direction, and crossing it is authorized

▢ The line separates opposing lanes, but crossing it is acceptable

    Question 3 - Diagnostic Test

    (A) A double solid white line separates two lanes driving in the same direction, yet crossing it is illegal. On highways, double solid white lines are commonly used to separate a high-occupancy vehicle (HOV) lane from other lanes driving in the same direction.

    Question 4 - Diagnostic Test

What exactly do these yellow pavement markings indicate?

    ▢ It's a one-way street

    ▢ This is a three-way intersection

▢ Right turns are permitted for vehicles moving in either direction

▢ Left turns are permitted for vehicles moving in either direction

    Question 4 - Diagnostic Test

    (D) This is a shared center turning lane with a two-way left turn lane. Vehicles moving in either direction may perform a left turn (or, if permitted, a U-turn) from this lane. Proceed with caution and keep an eye out for oncoming vehicles when turning left here. This lane should never be used for passing. A solid yellow line and a broken yellow line mark each side of this lane.

    ▢ four years

    ▢ seven years

    Question 5 - Diagnostic Test

    (B) If you are convicted of committing either (1) three significant traffic violations in a five-year period, your license will be revoked for five years, or (2) any 10 traffic offenses in a three-year period, your license will be removed for three years, you will be branded a habitual offender. DUI, hit-and-run, and vehicular manslaughter are all serious traffic violations.

    Question 6 - Diagnostic Test

Tires that are unbalanced or have low tire pressures might cause

    ▢ faster tire wear

    ▢ increased fuel economy

    ▢ reduced stopping distance

    ▢ all of the aforementioned

    Question 6 - Diagnostic Test

    (A) When the road is wet, worn or bald tires can increase stopping distance and make turning more difficult. Unbalanced tires or low tire pressures can result in faster tire wear and poorer fuel economy, as well as making the vehicle more difficult to steer and stop.

    Question 7 - Diagnostic Test

If you intend to turn after passing through an intersection, you should

▢ signal just after you pass through the intersection

▢ not give any turn signal

▢ signal just before you make the turn

▢ signal before you pass through the intersection

    Question 7 - Diagnostic Test

    (A) If you intend to turn beyond a junction, signal just after passing past it. If you signal too early, another driver may mistakenly believe you are turning at the intersection.

▢ the two-second sight distance rule

▢ the four-second sight distance rule

▢ the three-second sight distance rule

▢ the one-second sight distance rule

    Question 9 - Diagnostic Test

    (B) If you drive faster than you can see ahead, you may not be able to stop in time to escape a disaster. To avoid this, use the four-second sight distance rule to safely come to a halt. Choose a stationary item as far ahead as you can see. Begin counting with one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand, three-one-thousand, and four-one-thousand. If you arrive at the object before you have finished counting four-one-thousand, you are going too quickly and should slow down.

    Question 10 - Diagnostic Test

    ▢ three years

If there is no right lane, wait until the road ahead is free, then gradually reduce your speed. This will provide an incentive for the tailgater to pass you. Never accelerate to satisfy or outdistance a tailgater. Some tailgaters believe that no speed is too fast.

▢ a minimum of three lanes

    Question 12 - Diagnostic Test

In Delaware, however, there is an exception: you do not have to stop if the bus is stopped on the other side of a four-lane highway. Even so, you should take your time and approach with caution.
