#1 Bookshops are full of stories. The stories of bookshop owners, and all the books they read that made them fall in love with reading. The stories of authors, and why they wrote their first book. The stories of customers who walk through the door.
#2 The book industry has changed a lot over the past few centuries. Bookshops are closing due to increased rents, business rates, and retail giants undercutting prices. But bookshops are still relevant because so much of our lives is spent on computers, and the idea of a shopping experience is more important than ever before.
#3 Bookshops are still relevant today. They are magical places that instill a sense of wonder and adventure in children, and they offer a haven in a busy world for us to stop and think.

Insights from Chapter 2
#1
The Bookshop is a magic place filled with old books and treasures. It is the ideal bookshop.
#2
Wigtown, Scotland, was chosen to be the National Book Town of Scotland in 2012. It has a population of just 1,000 people, and ten people approached me within half an hour asking if I’d met Shaun Bythell yet. Shaun is a bit of a local legend. He runs the largest bookshop in Wigtown.
#3
I visited the Wigtown Book Festival opening party in Scotland. I was huddled in a tent with Shaun, who didn’t like me. But he still gave me a gin and tonic.
#4
Shaun’s bookshop is huge, and he has over 100,000 books on his shelves. He has a mezzanine floor in the middle of the shop with a double bed so people can stay during the festival.
#5
The author met Shaun at a book festival in California, and they began talking. A few months later, Jessica packed up her bags and flew from Los Angeles all the way to Scotland.
