    Prolog

Darkness. The void of nothingness before creation. The state before consciousness.

Then there was lust. The chaotic rush of killing. Even before sight, there was the urge to kill. The purpose... my purpose.

Then there was sound. The sound of flesh ripping, blood dripping, and people yelling. Then it would stop, leaving only echoed sobs. The dominant voices were one of a boy and a girl. The boy’s screams as he died and the girl’s cries after.

I could feel her sorrow after the lust had faded.

    No, that wasn’t all.

I could feel the boy too. Just before the cycle starts again, I can feel his... devotion. She completed him. The warm embrace of love that filled his heart is what triggers the thirst for blood.

My curiosity gets the better of me. I pay more attention to the cycles.

Love, lust, death, then destruction, though the intervals changed. Sometimes he starts to love her bit by bit, not realizing his true feelings for months. Sometimes he realized everything all at once. Sometimes the girl would live a bit after she killed the boy, but she usually killed herself right after the act.

Did I care? I don’t believe I had the capacity to care. I was too young.

It wasn’t until the cycle ended, when the sobs were replaced by a yell. The girl, her bellow of a warrior that I could finally focus on.

They played me like a puppet-

It was her. The girl. Instead of sobs, her voice spat venom as her heart filled with purpose.

I may be a slave of this village, but I still serve the lord of this land. With the power of the evil spirit that the enemy has placed in me, I will protect this land in his name.

I could feel her heart. The whirlwind of emotions that she felt. Apart from her wanting to let the world around her burn, her goal of fulfilling her love’s last wish turned that whirlwind into an unmistakable weapon.

I opened my vision for the first time. She stood on a hill, looking out onto an army of men that were twice her size, armor and skill outmatching her with every soldier.

She knew she was going to die. Yet, she was at peace.

By protecting this village, she would be able to hold her head high when she saw her love in the afterlife.

That is what she believed with all her heart.

Her hand pointed to the ground. Scars decorated her sun-kissed skin as she pointed to the front of the army. Speaking from the bottom of her gut, she threatened the army before her.

Anyone who takes a step towards me will be shown no mercy.

I was baffled. This was her enemy; why was she giving them one last mercy?

A big man with muscles replacing his neck barked a laugh. He was speaking but I couldn’t comprehend-

Without hesitation, the girl jumped into the air. With a tight spin on the way down, she used my power to make her nails into claws that jetted knives from her fingertips. With the momentum of her spin, the claws glided through his neck and severed his windpipe. He gargled blood as his hands tried to close the cut.

She was cold, she was calculated, and she was ready to die.

It was as if she was dancing. Gliding under the attacks of the bigger men to cut the weak points in their armor. Lifting her arm to detach an attacking limb. Using the power to jump over the men in order to cut their throats.

Swords cut into her, she became more desperate. The burning of the injury made her more feral. She used her teeth, ripping open flesh. Using the dead as shields against the living. Yet she never fled.

    She was magnificent.

Eventually, she succumbed to her injuries. One small misstep lost her the battle along with her life.

After that, I began paying more attention.

I will never stop helping you and the others, Luu. We all share the same hell after all.

Though I could not see, the face of an attractive, dark clay skinned man sat in the dark next to my form.

He smiled bright enough to light up the moon-peeked night. One day you will regret it, my Lady.

The girl snorted, Please, he can only beat me. Not like what the other women have to go through... The air was thick for a moment before my unknowing host stood up; patting the backside of her multi-layered dress. Regardless, I may as well go back inside before anyone realizes that I have left.

It would be for the best, my Lady. The boy named Luu nodded. The true despair rippled through his form before the Lady left. Walking through the grounds as the sounds of the flat, hard earth followed her. The outback nightlife made its presence known. She was obviously born into money, considering the size of the house that she had to sneak back into. A dark-skinned young girl helped her through the window. Both stifled their giggles as they collapsed on the floor.

Everything went well then? the young girl asked.

Yes, Jomarie; my host smiled. I was able to calm Luu down. Hopefully, he will convince the others not to get themselves killed.

The young girl quirked an eyebrow, Did you give him a reason to stay?

With a playful laugh, the host waved off Jomarie as she got herself off the floor. No, I did not confess my feelings, nor will I ever. I only assured him that I would do everything I could to control father and his hooligans’ actions.

The sun in the little girl’s face clouded and they both shared a moment of grief. They both knew she didn’t have any power. Quickly, my form turned around. Now, mind helping me out of my corset? I know you have to get back soon.

Without dawdling, Jomarie helped her Lady out of her clothes and quickly left to the children’s cubby in the kitchen. They were supposed to sleep with the women in their cabin, but...

The Lady kept the window open. Even though the woman’s screams made her sick to her stomach, she kept the window open. She thought that she was sharing in their suffering somehow. I didn’t understand it, nor the intense suffocation her heartfelt.

The next day, the Lady was woken up by Jomarie and assisted into uncomfortable clothing. She had a quick meal before going into a room with a book. She read until an older, unfamiliar woman interrupted her.

My Lady, pardon us but lunch may be a bit late.

My host closed the book with a smile. Of course Joo. Hopefully, everything is all right.

The Lady shook her head. I’ve been given the name Mary, my Lady. Everything is fine, just one of the girls is sick. We are having trouble making up the time.

The Lady’s heart bled; If this is the case, I want you to give my food to the one that is ill.

When Joo tried to protest, the Lady raised a hand. I will hear none of it. When my food is prepared, use it to heal. I will not grow faint before the next meal.

With a small smile, the woman bobbed on her heels. As you wish, my Lady.

With that, my host went back to her book. It was a bit of time before she was interrupted again. This time, it was the piercing screams that came from outside.

The Lady dropped her book and sprinted, picking up the hem of her dress so her legs could pump harder. Her breathing became labored as she stepped into the bright scorching air.

Two white men held Joo to a tree as she cried, speaking words that my host did not know in between pleading sobs. Behind her, the robust monster pulled back the hand with a riding crop. Grunting as he flicked his wrist down on the old woman. The gathering crowd all took in a breath as the older woman screamed.

Her heart plummeted, but her legs were not weighed down. She jumped before the next flick, just in time to shield Joo from the hit. The thin braid fired pain across the Lady’s back, but the incessant layers kept the skin in tacked.

Insolent child. What is the meaning of this? The pig Lord of the house yelled.

Holding back tears that still flowed enough to blur her vision, the Lady turned her head. Not moving her body from the shielding stance. Through gritted teeth, she asked her father, What did she do?

The man huffed. The savage was trying to steal food. Bold enough to take into the den to hord it like rats.

The Lady ground her teeth. Putting all of her burning hatred into her eyes as she responded. I gave her permission. It was on my order that she took it to the one who fell ill.

The man sighed, softly dropping the whip to rest in the other hand. No matter, the Abo was speaking in tongues. That alone is enough to be punished.

More tears flowed as the Lady screamed, "You Monster!"

As if daydreaming, the old man’s eyes became a bit soft. Just like your mother, you are. Before the Lady could scream, the Lord gave a slight nod to the men holding Joo. Immediately, the snickering buffoons took hold of the struggling woman. She grunted and protested as they hauled her to her feet. The old man just turned up his nose. Perhaps it is time to marry you off. I have a bloke in my hunting party that was talking about wanting a woman.

The Lady froze. Ice filling every inch of her. Too stunned to think, she only turned to Luu. Her eyes were immediately able to pick him out of the crowd. Her thoughts full of horror and regret.

There was another feeling. I could feel him. The thought of the Lady going away. The thought of the Lady being bedded by another man. A flash of pink and puke green surrounded him. He wanted her. His eyes bulged with the realization.

    He loved her.

Just then the curse on my form constricted. My consciousness was filled with the lust. Not a thought was mine as my darkness consumed the Lady’s limbs. Supernatural strength tore out the men’s shoulders from their sockets. As they dropped from the shocking pain, the Lady’s body lunged at Luu. Burning nails formed daggers as an animalistic growl curved up her lips. Without a sane thought, I couldn’t even try to help. Not even the battering of those around her could keep the curse from making Luu’s blood flow from her claws.

Yet I felt everything. The Lady’s screams as each claw replaced his skin with red. How she internally begged for her love’s life. The horror and squashed hope of the boy as his closest ally killed him on the patchy earth. Lastly, I felt the joy of a killer as the strings that pulled me continued to collect his skin under her nails.

As soon as he gargled his last breath, she was given back control. Sadistic growls were replaced by sobs. Her tense body ragged in the pool of her true love’s blood.

One of the guards tried once again to grab her, gripping her upper arm with all of his strength. Without thought, the Lady twisted. Free of hesitation, she rammed her fingers into the man’s neck.

When he dropped, she sprung. Screaming as she killed any of her father’s men near her. It was not like the warrior of her past life. The Lady had precision. Ramming her claws into necks and lungs, doing her best to kill them quickly. All except for her father. The Lord was found in a corner, sniveling. Mucus covered his shaking form as his eyes were glazed with shock. I felt the ice-hard disgust that the Lady felt as she saw him. No love, no pity, just disdain.

A flicker of light caught her eyes, she turned to see flames creeping out the windows of the manor. A small smile crossed her lips as she finally looked around her. The Aborigines were looting the place. Grabbing just enough to run. They were free, finally free from the torture.

She turned back to the tyrant, resolve hardening her movements.

Without a word, she used her new strength to drag her father by the arm. Sinking her claws under the skin to ensure he couldn’t get away. He screamed and fought of course, but she didn’t give him an inch.

She took him inside the house. Praying that the flames could purify the evil her and her father obviously share. Her last tears were dedicated to her darling Luu. Hoping and wishing that this act would allow him to forgive her.

    The cycle continued on.

A mountain girl in China. A Russian girl surrounded by snow. A fishing girl surrounded by sea. An Egyptian girl in the city. A farmer girl in South America. Every cycle I grew. Every time I tried to stop the boy’s death. Deviate the lust, change the circumstances. Unfortunately, no matter how hard I tried, I couldn’t wake up till the boy began to develop feelings. I couldn’t stop the lust, the death that was cursed to repeat. I couldn’t warn them from the darkness where I resided. I could only watch things play out.

She loved him, but she was independent of him. The girl would fight to stay alive if she had someone depending on her. Young or old, she would try to use my power of death to help others. If no one depended on her, she took her own life to protect others from her lover’s fate.

She was caring, loyal, and honorable
