About this ebook

Have you ever thought in your life how magnificent it is to reach the top of a mountain? What are essential skills for a mountain climber? These are the same questions we always ask. Important words to remind us to keep moving:

P = Prayer, through them we communicate with God, and “nothing will be impossible with God.” (Luke 1:37). Believe in Him, and you will get there!

P = Plan to win.

D = Determination to reach where you want to be in life is crucial.

S = Working hard with consistency will help you to build your stamina to get on top.

P = Patience to wait to receive what you have prayed for. “Whatever you ask for in prayer with faith, you will receive.” (Matthew 21:22)

On top of the mountain is our destination. It is difficult to climb, but once you get there, the atmosphere is wonderful. If you want to be successful you should not stop climbing and seeking your dreams until you achieve your goals; no matter what difficulty you face on the way, you should not give up.

In Life Is Like Climbing a Mountain, Newstar Mwombeki reaffirms her belief that we should climb the mountain with a vision and a mission to pursue our goals in the highest perspective. But we need courage and determination to get through the ceiling. Through her examples in this book, you will learn how wonderful it is to reach the top of life’s mountain.

I want to express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to my family—my dear husband Rev Dr Fidon Mwombeki who has encouraged me always and being a supportive husband at all times I needed his help. I could not imagine if I could have done it without his love and care around me. I am so blessed to my four children, Ainekisha, Atugonza, Ajuna and Ninsiima. Without their support, I could not have finished writing this book. May God bless you all and I love you very dearly. As I was writing this book, I received a joyful message that God has granted us a granddaughter in our family. We thank our Father for his lovely gift Divine Murungi to us and for bringing her on the earth. She has brought more happiness to our family. She is an angel baby girl! Thanks to God!

I am very grateful to my mother for her tireless encouragement and prayer for me in this writing journey of my book. She is now 88 years old, but she can still manage to give me her blessings and love so that I can succeed in accomplishing my dreams. I am so proud of her, and I will always be so. If it weren’t for the blessings from my mother, I wouldn’t have managed to be where I am now. Thank you very much, my beloved mother.

My appreciation should go to all brothers, sisters and friends who have shared their support to me in one way or another. May God greatly bless you for the advice and the time that you have given me to resolve to write this book. I want to thank Wivina and Renate for being lovely and supportive girls in our family. As I was writing my book, Wivina would politely ask me, Mama, could I make a cup of coffee for you? She has never felt tired of me. May the Lord bless you all for your kindness, love and help during the time of my writing journey.

Last but not least, I thank God for his mercy on me, love, guidance and help to all the processes of writing my book. He has been my mentor, engineer, pillar and my right hand in guiding me on how to face the hindering circumstances and obstacles that I have encountered on my writing journey. It was not an easy way for me to make it. But with God the impossible things become possible. Jesus answered, What is humanly impossible is possible for God (Luke 18:27). I cannot imagine how my life would be without Jesus. The Bible says, I have the strength to face all conditions by the power that Christ gives me (Philippians 4:13).

    Introduction

This book is about ‘life’. Below is a tree of the life cycle.

I am trying to illustrate a picture of a tree of life in a cycle form. How could life be without any of those components above? All those things around the tree are helping us to cope with new alternative ways of living. I did not think about it before! But since I started to write this book: I was becoming more aware of life. I started to think differently about my everyday life.

Then, I thought oh, I have a choice to decide what kind of life I need: First, I need to trust in God and depend on Him. Second, I need to keep my wants and needs in God’s hands. Third, I should learn to be patient and believe that God knows my requests and He will reply to me in His own time.

Lastly, I should believe that God is with me. He sees us, and He is never too far from us. The Bible in Matthew 28:20b says, And I will be with you always, to the end of the age. It does not matter where we are and what we do in life—the word of God from Genesis 21:22c has given us more power that God is with us in everything we do.

We shall know and realise the power of God. He has not forgotten us; if we trust Him and have faith in Him, He will not let us down.

Life is complex because of the many things around us. The more we live, the more we have a lot of needs and wants. As long as we live, we are suffering from different problems like poverty, hunger, diseases and now; we have a big problem with climate change worldwide. The climate change has created a lot of problems all over the world. For example, in the world now there is a big problem of frequent earthquakes, heavy rains with floods or unusual heat.

In my country where I come from in Tanzania, East Africa; for many years, we have been seeing the snow on top of the Mountain Kilimanjaro. But as I am writing this book there is a little of it left on that mountain, given its height of 5895 meters above sea level, this is surprising for most Tanzanians. Likewise, on 9 October 2016 in Tanzania, we had a tragedy of an earthquake. It occurred in Bukoba, Kagera where I originally come from. It was terrible, many people died, many people were left without a place to live and everything was gone in a second. It was terrible!

So, the problem of global warming is not only affecting people in Europe but also in Africa. And nowadays there is a campaign about global warming. Leaders around the world are struggling to find a solution for the issue. However, the situation is not that easy to handle because some of the issues are caused by Mother Nature though initiated by the needs of man.

It is only the Almighty God who can control everything, not a human being. That is why; we should put all our troubles in God’s hands. If we depend on God, He will show us the way to survive. The Bible says, Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God (Philippians 4:6).

However, we must trust in God so that He can take care of our worries. The word of God from Luke 12:22-24 says, He said to his disciples, ‘Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat, or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than clothing. Consider the ravens: they neither sow nor reap, they have neither storehouse nor barn, and yet God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds!’ Exactly, God has given us more priority than the birds and animals. We should be grateful for the many gifts we have from Him.

Furthermore, it is important to learn to see things in a positive way, no matter which situations or circumstances we are facing. We should try our best to be positive in our daily lives. Likewise, we should thank God for the opportunities we have. For example, when I wake up and get up from my bed, prayer is my first thing to do.

I ask God to be with me, to be with my family, to bless my day, and everything, which I will be doing. Sometimes I do exercise and do a little bit of meditation at least for 6 to 10 minutes. While I am doing meditation, I listen to music, and I try to remember and visualise good things in my mind, which I have already done in the past. Moreover, I always try to concentrate and not allow any distractions in my mind. It is good, I tell you!

Try to do it, and you will feel better. If it works for me, hopefully, it will work for you too, start doing it from today! Remember consistency is a key factor for everything we do!

If you have to go to work very early in the morning, you can train yourself to have a short prayer before you leave. Ask God to give you His strength and to guard you through the day. The word of God from Isaiah 41:10 insist to us, Do not be afraid, I am with you! I am your God-let nothing terrify you! I will make you strong and help you; I will protect you and save you. Just be strong because God is with you and with God’s help you can make it.

In fact, you can do your meditation during the weekend days. Then you have more time, and you can meditate without any pressure or distractions. Try to sit alone without interruptions from other people while you are meditating. Furthermore, it is very essential to stand for yourself and say I can make a positive impact in my life.

I can climb the mountain of success in my life. That is what matters! You can break through the boundaries, which have been blocking your life’s progress. You can say, I am in charge of my life. I am responsible for my life, and I can have a choice to live the life I want.

Your life is in your hands. Learn to be creative, innovative and get an alternative way to change your life. Franklin Convey explained in his book that, "Look at the word responsibility – ‘response-ability’ – the ability to choose your response. Highly proactive people recognize that responsibility.

They do not blame circumstance, conditions, or conditioning for their behavior. Their behavior is a product of their own conscious choice, based on values, rather than a product of their conditions based on feeling.¹"

It is very vital to understand yourself and your weaknesses. If you understand your weaknesses, then you will make an effort to learn or correct your mistakes. If you do not realise your weaknesses and see everything is fine, that is a big problem. Because we are all learning from our mistakes! Maybe that is why, sometimes you feel like you are not improving, and you feel stuck in your life.

Take a step, and change your life, but first, you must change your behaviour towards your life.

Life is not standing like a stone waiting for solutions of our problems to come. We must find ways to overcome our obstacles, which makes our lives to be disordered and dissatisfied. We should try our best to live the best lives on earth.

The keys to our success in life are: prayer, determination and patience (PDP). On the other hand, life is an empty page, which we need to write on and fill it up. Remember always, where there is an effort, there is a way out to success!

In addition, we can make a list of things, which we need to achieve in our lives. And try to work on our lists every time we can. Also, we can have a plan to sustain our goals. We will be amazed after a couple of days or years how much we have achieved from our goals. We must believe in ourselves and do it.

A window of success is open for us; we do not have to look back. We should only go through the window, and we will reach the top of the mountain. Every time you will feel like you want to give up, remember to ask yourself if other people have been there already, why not me either? Keep in mind determination is the key to success!

Since I started to visualise the word ‘life’, I have many questions going on in my brain, like—What kind of life do I have? Am I satisfied with my life? Am I happy? How can I explain the word ‘life’ to my children, my friends and relatives? Do I need a life cover? Do I need a life gain? Or do I need life insurance? Honestly, to me, the answer is very simple! I do not need the life cover, life gain or life insurance because my life cover is God. God is covering everything in my life. So, I can say confidently that the ‘Life’ is good! God is the master in my life.

Ask yourself, what kind of life do you have? Are you doing things that are praising God? Or making Him miserable? As I am writing this book, I know there are some people out there who are planning to destroy other people’s life. Or you are disturbing people around you in your community or neighbourhood by making chaos and creating problems to innocent people.

Think before you react or give any information about other people because what you will say will follow you in your life. No matter how long it will take to get a feedback on what you have said. It is better to avoid unreasonable circumstances.
