Organic Gardening for Everyone - Dorothy A. Musselwhite
Introduction
Organic gardening is the system of cultivating vegetables, fruits and herbs using only natural devices. The organic gardener seeks to function in agreement with natural routines, practices and procedures and to curtail and repeatedly replace any of the resources the garden uses up. An organic gardener chooses to use organic and natural methods and materials, while attempting to get around introducing synthetic chemicals or routines that may affect the health of the individual or the environment. As compensation, organic gardens can be equally productive and attractive. Also, growing and tending an organic garden is easier than you think.
One significant difference between regular and organic gardening pertains to pest control and fertilization. If you can find pests in your garden, it is crucial to consider whether or not they are bringing about significant damage for you to take action against them. Some plants such as dill, sunflowers, and marigolds tend to be a focus for beneficial insects that target pests that would otherwise harm plants that are in close proximity. Some plants are apt to repel certain pests, particularly when planted close to vulnerable plants. These kinds of plants are known to emit chemicals from their leaves or roots, known as allelochemicals, which ward off pests. Also, praying mantises, ladybugs, and birds are regarded as the gardener's allies when it comes to controlling insects.
Organic gardening is often as much about cultivating practices as it is about planning. In this book, you will find all there is to know about organic gardening, what it is, and how it can be done effectively. This book offers you the right set of circumstances to learn about organic gardening and how to set up one, allowing you to make the most of the benefits they offer.
Despite the fact that organic gardens require an undeniable amount of commitment and can also take time to set up, the organic system of gardening is inexpensive, safer, and more gratifying.
Chapter 1: Grow a Wholesome Garden
What is Organic Gardening?
A good number of gardeners do not know how to set up an organic garden or know what it is all about. Organic gardening is generally gardening with no usage of artificial products such as pesticides and fertilizers. It includes only the use of natural products to grow vegetables, herbs and fruits in your garden. Organic gardening replaces natural resources as they are used.
Plants are considered as part of a bigger natural arrangement that starts with soil and comprises people, insects, and water supply. We all want the environment and the food we serve to our family and friends to be healthy and safe. Competent gardeners try to make sure that their activities are in agreement with the natural environment and strive to minimize mistreatment along with replacing every resource used by their garden.
Nearly everyone that comes across the term organic gardening
possibly long to know it’s meaning. Organic gardening is a term that basically means to grow fruits, vegetables, herbs, and plants in the best natural way with no usage of synthetic chemical fertilizers or chemicals. Be that as it may, organic gardening goes beyond just evading the usage of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides.
Organic gardening comprises reinforcing the health of the whole gardening system through natural means. It involves functioning in agreement with all the natural systems which includes insects, people, water supply, and the soil with a final aim of limiting the damage to things that are living and those that are not living in the natural ecosystem while continuously replacing any used resources in the course of gardening.
The basics of organic gardening involve growing with emphasis on producing an environment that sustains and nurtures plants and soil microbes, while also profiting insects beyond just burying seeds in the ground and allowing them to grow.
For starters, there are 3 key areas of concentration when following the aim of organic gardening. And these includes:
Soil Management
Pest Control
Weed Management
The soil is managed through the use of organic fertilizers; pests are controlled by encouraging companion planting and beneficial insects; while weeds are handled through the usage of organic ground coverings and manual labor. These three areas of concentration are vital to growing into a great organic gardener.
