    Your First eBay Listing

    You should be at least 18 years old. Make sure you provide valid and real contact information and never misrepresent your identity.

    Verify that your business is legal. Check state and local licensing rules and secure required licenses and permits.

    Most states require all but occasional sellers to collect and remit sales tax on certain retail

    Consult a tax professional regarding the tax consequences of running a business.

    While antique ivory may be legal to own and sell, eBay won’t allow it.

    While many states allow the legal use of marijuana, eBay never allows the sale of smoking paraphernalia.

    eBay permits the sale of stamps, letters, and envelopes containing Nazi postmarks; however, the sale of Nazi items are nearly all prohibited from sale.

    Items that are restricted, or prohibited entirely, include:

    Items that pose a safety hazard, such as recalled items, dangerous chemicals, or materials that are unsafe to ship

    Items that are insensitive or offensive to others

    Items that are stolen

    Items that violate copyrights and trademarks

    Items that are illegal

    Create listings that are honest, accurate, and legally compliant.

    Develop original listing content—do not borrow descriptions or photos.

    Use brand names correctly—don't add irrelevant keywords to manipulate search results.
