About this ebook
Please note: This is a companion version & not the original book.
Book Preview: #1 Health is not simply the absence of disease. It is an active state. Your body has five health defense systems: angiogenesis, regeneration, the microbiome, DNA protection, and immunity. They are responsible for maintaining your health and resisting the regular hazards you face as part of ordinary life.
#2 The body has a defense system that keeps microscopic cancers small by starving them of the blood supply and nutrients they would need to grow. This defense system is called angiogenesis, and it is at the heart of how angiogenesis defends health by keeping us in a state called homeostasis.
#3 The smallest blood vessels are called capillaries, and they are the final link in the chain of the blood vessel delivery system to your cells. They are located within two hundred micrometers of every cell in the body.
#4 Angiogenesis is the process of growing new blood vessels to replace those that have been damaged. It is triggered by hypoxia, or lowered oxygen levels, in wounded tissue. The endothelial cells that line your veins are ready to grow new blood vessels if the right growth factors are present.

#1
Health is not simply the absence of disease. It is an active state. Your body has five health defense systems: angiogenesis, regeneration, the microbiome, DNA protection, and immunity. They are responsible for maintaining your health and resisting the regular hazards you face as part of ordinary life.
#2
The body has a defense system that keeps microscopic cancers small by starving them of the blood supply and nutrients they would need to grow. This defense system is called angiogenesis, and it is at the heart of how angiogenesis defends health by keeping us in a state called homeostasis.
#3
The smallest blood vessels are called capillaries, and they are the final link in the chain of the blood vessel delivery system to your cells. They are located within two hundred micrometers of every cell in the body.
#4
Angiogenesis is the process of growing new blood vessels to replace those that have been damaged. It is triggered by hypoxia, or lowered oxygen levels, in wounded tissue. The endothelial cells that line your veins are ready to grow new blood vessels if the right growth factors are present.
#5
The angiogenesis system is constantly on the lookout for situations where blood vessels should be pruned back. It is like a dimmer switch that can be turned up to grow more blood vessels when there is a need, but it can also be turned down to prune back blood vessels when they are no longer needed.
#6
The main reason microscopic cancers don’t grow is your body’s natural angiogenesis inhibitors. These countermeasures keep tumors in check by depriving them of a blood supply. As researchers at Harvard Medical School discovered as early as 1974, so long as no blood vessels grow to feed tumors, the cancer cells will remain dormant and harmless.
#7
Targeted drugs have been developed to treat tumor angiogenesis, which is the excessive growth of blood vessels that leads to disease. Many other conditions besides cancer are affected by angiogenesis, including vision loss, rheumatoid arthritis, and osteoarthritis.
#8
Pruning away excess blood vessels is important, but so is maintaining the body’s ability to grow a sufficient circulatory system to protect organs that need to increase or restore their blood supply. As we age, our circulation often naturally wanes, and this ability needs to be coaxed and boosted to feed and maintain healthy tissues and organs.
#9
The angiogenesis defense system is also responsible for growing new blood vessels to help form a bypass around blockages. This defense system is activated when there is any threat to the heart or brain’s own circulation.
#10
The angiogenesis defense system protects you from many diseases. The foods you eat can be used to help treat your condition as well as prevent it. Understanding that angiogenesis is one of your key health defense systems is key to unlocking new secrets for long-lasting health.
#11
Stem cells are the key to maintaining your health. They are the basis of angiogenesis, the process by which new blood vessels are created to feed your organs. They also play a key role in maintaining your organs as you age.
#12
Your body’s stem cells make up a tiny but powerful subset that can regenerate your health. They are able to repair, replace, and regenerate dead and worn out cells on demand. Like special forces soldiers in your body, they gather intelligence, conduct reconnaissance, and execute missions to keep organs in
