The Eight Interaction Skills - Sujendra Prakash
INTRODUCTION
Life is full of interactions . All our waking time is spent interacting with others. Learning Interaction Skills will make it easy for us to deal with any kind of situation.
One major learning is to connect with the audience. The audience can be one person or a group of people. Building a rapport with the audience solves a lot of our communication problems.
The essence of communication lies in language skills. Understanding the difference between perception and production of language helps us in communicating with others.
Communication is not just talking. It is conveying specific information depending upon the context. A deep understanding of the skills essential for communication goes a long way in fruitful living.
Another aspect of communication is to develop Listening Skills. Minimizing errors in listening can bring in a smoother conversation.
Sometimes we have to communicate a set of information to a group of people. This could be in a work situation or otherwise. In this instance, presentation skills will make our communication effective.
In formal presentations, we may have to prepare and present a seminar. If we have an understanding of the nuances of presenting a seminar, we can walk away from it successfully.
Communication also becomes essential during negotiation. Learning negotiation skills will make an interaction successful.
Public speaking skills enhance our success, especially in a formal environment. This is another important aspect of communication.
The last aspect of communication is to write what we intend to communicate. Developing writing skills is essential for communicating effectively.
chapter 1: BUILDING RAPPORT
When you go to a movie theatre, you expect the movie to engage you for a couple of hours. You don’t want to think of something else as long as the movie is on. Similarly, think that when the audience is there to hear you speak, all its attention should be focused on you. The more chances they have to get distracted the greater will be their discomfort about your speech. How then are you able to connect with the audience so that your speech impacts them?
Communicate for tomorrow
YOUR COMMUNICATION should not only arouse curiosity but also sustain interest in the audience. In the modern world, information is easily available. More than what you say, how you say it becomes all the more important to people. Unless it is forceful and enthralling, they lose interest.
When you communicate, make sure that there is no interference. Using visual aids will help you in being specific and meaningful. If modern visual aids are not allowed, at least use flashcards containing specific points. Even if you are not allowed
