Two Ticks - Sarah Moore
Chapter 1
ADORNO.jpgDelphia
I
woke up this morning from the buzzing of my alarm. It was four in the morning. I turned it off, got off my bed, and took two pops of Tylenol that I kept by my bedside from the night before These days, my bickering with Harry has made me keep it handy. I always woke up with a crazy migraine most mornings.
I got into the bedroom, washed my mouth, and flossed. I pulled my silk nightgown over my head, and I felt wetness slide just above my hips. All my thoughts went back to the night before. On one of my most frustrating nights, I threw the gown into the hamper.
I opened up the bathroom dresser, picked up my pack of wipes and cleaned the wetness above my hips, disposed of it, brought out my kit, put them on, and headed for the gym in the basement. I work out on my free days, and on days I don’t have to go to work because I don’t always go. After the birth of Mark, I have worked really hard to get back in shape. I don’t know what my confidence level would drop if I were some fat billionaire’s wife.
I had to get up earlier today. Harry had called his parents for dinner later that day, and there was a lot to be done. The thought of having to pretend that I was one of the happiest and most fulfilled women in Dallas filled my mind once again. Well, that is what everyone thinks. I am married to an heir who inherited an heirloom. The biggest wine importing company in the region amongst many things
He is an investing billionaire. I had access to more than enough money, plus I had my own money as a doctor.
By the time I was done. I was exhausted, both mentally and physically, but I was in good spirits, a sign that the day would go well, I thought. It was about six when I came out of the shower. The day was hot, so I wore denim shorts and a deep red tank top with short sleeves. The tank top was a bit loose on me, and it had silver streaks on it that fit the washed denim and my skin. I wore very light makeup; I lined my eyes with white eyeliner, filled in my brows, and wore a peach gloss over my lips
The nanny had already gotten Mark ready for school and fed him. I took him on my way out and dropped him off at school. I had to go grocery shopping for dinner we had with the parents Harry was still in bed when we left the house.
The chef is going to be assisting me today. I already informed him beforehand, and I wanted to make this dinner myself.
When I got back from shopping, Harry was still upstairs, and Mr. Cameron was upgrading my gym in the basement
He had a deal to close with investors from Spain, so I figured it was possibly a virtual meeting, and I didn’t need him downstairs, at least not yet; I was preparing for both a dinner night and a celebration night. He had toiled day and night to get that contract, and I was hoping it would pay off. I still love him.
I baked gingerbread cookies and berry whipped cream cupcakes.
Harry and Mark enjoy gingerbread cookies. I grilled bacon and other side dishes.
I also made arancini balls with pasta, cheese, truffle, and crumbs.
I picked up the recipe from our last business trip to Italy, and today was a perfect day to try it out. I may score one with Harry’s father today, and it will be a really perfect day, the old man already loves me, but there was nothing wrong with extra love. I made the arrabbiata sauce that would go with the arancini balls, and they tasted heavenly for a first try.
I made soup and porridge too. Harry’s father is sick, so I wanted to give them as many options as possible.
I made the chef juice with some pomegranate, apple, and beet. I wanted everything as natural as possible.
Harry had said earlier on to say he was picking up Mark from school; he was going to be helpful today at home.
Is that gingerbread I smell?
His voice rattled me, and I almost dropped the last set of cookies I just brought out of the oven.
Harry!
I yelled. Quit sneaking up on me
Just then, Mark ran into the kitchen and hugged me, getting flour all over him. Mommy!
My four-year-old cheered. I didn’t notice how fast time went by and when he left the house, but I was so happy to see my boy,
I pulled off my mittens and wiped his butter cheeks and blonde hair with my napkin to get the flour off him.
How was school today?
It was fine, mommy. Can I get some cookies, mommy?
his eyes on the cookies on the counter Yes, I said
I gave him one from the first set that was already cool.
Are Gramps and Granny still coming for dinner?
He asked while biting messily into his cookies Yes,
I replied and saw his eyes light up now go and get changed and ready for the night
he ran off, and I looked up and saw Harry’s eyes fixated on the cookies on the tray, and I heard his stomach rumble.
I guess my parents have to come often; I’ve missed this part of you,
He said.
Let’s not do that right now,
I applied.
I’m not trying to start anything.
I rolled my eyes at him. I picked up the kitchen landline and called the chef to get the table set at the patio; I wanted an outdoor dinner.
I dropped the phone and removed my apron, and Harry is right in front of me. My eyes travel to the box in his hands. He handed it over to me
Wear them tonight.
I collected the box from him and opened it. It was diamond-plated jewelry; my eyes got big at the bling. I felt the thinness and precision of the craftsmanship. One of the perks of marrying an heir. Harry has always been sweet right from when we started dating. He loved to gift me every now and then.
Did you get the deal?
I asked, suddenly taking my attention away from the gift. It just occurred to me that I hadn’t asked yet.
What do you think?
He asked, forming a very big smile, and I knew he got it; I squealed and jumped into his arms. With my head resting on his chest, congrats,
I said. I wished the moment would last forever, he was quite tall, and the hug was as comforting as a bear hug. I didn’t want it to end. He tried to kiss me, and I sidestepped, untangling myself from him. I would go and get ready for tonight after I must have checked on Mark,
I said, and I saw hope drain from his face. He wished this moment would last too.
Thank you for the gift, I will cherish it,
and I said, walking out of the kitchen, leaving Harry standing crestfallen behind.
Mommy!!
My boy ran over to me and held onto me.
You look good in that suit
he was wearing one of the many suits his Gramps had bought for him. This one was a royal blue.
His blonde hair was sleek, and it relaxed on his head; I dismissed the nanny, helped him put on his shoes, and kissed his head. The contact was reassuring me of hope and giving me strength. Where is daddy?
He ran off to find his father.
I let water seep through my skin, sending a therapeutic feeling all over me. It was what I needed after a very long day and maybe some wine later.
I washed my hair and scrubbed my skin, getting rid of the food smell and the stains. I quickly blow-dried my hair, put it in curls, and moisturized my skin. I took out a wine red dress from my wardrobe, one of the many gifts Harry got me; I have never worn this one. It was a knee-length dress that exposed my neck and my chest to a considerable extent.
The dress hugged perfectly unto my hips, pronouncing my ample figure, proof that my sweat at the gym was paying off.
My makeup was mild. I put my long dark locks in a low bun and let two curls fall on both sides of my face. I put on a sandale stiletto .
It was exactly 8 pm when I was done dressing up, and the guests were already arriving. I checked myself in the mirror one more time, and my neck and ears were glistening from the diamonds.
Harry’s father, Donald is a 6ft blonde chubby man; he lost a bit of his shine when he fell ill bit he’s still a very strong man. Beatrice, Harry’s mom, reeked of elegance. She has a habit of getting on your nerves, but she holds the family together so well.
The first time Harry brought me home to meet with the parents, Beatrice was so happy, she couldn’t hide it. She was going to get a daughter and a daughter-in-law. Harry was their only son. She loved me like my mother would have if she were still alive.
Mark ran past me across the patio to greet his grandparents. Beatrice pulled him
