ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
Thank you, mom, for being the first representative of beauty I was able to recognize. I have and will always admire your accomplishments, work ethic and ability to provide for me and my brother. Your example allowed me to see myself as a valuable part of this world.
Thank you, brother, for allowing your voice to be a bullhorn for those who went unheard. Your sacrifice was too heavy in my eyes but your effect on the lives of those you spoke for will never be the same.
Thank you, Jesus for the talents you bestowed upon me.
With words of thanks from me to you, much love is given to all of you.
Koa J’Air, Za’Niah, Kryst’na, V’Ctorea, Tory, Emma, Jer’Miaine and Victor.
DEDICATION
I dedicate my book of poetry to all those who want to just BREATHE while being black.
To walk, to talk, to work, to run, to learn, to drive, to live, to be an entrepreneur, and to survive while being in your beautiful melanin skin of richness.
BREATHE
I Can't Breathe,
he said.
May I stand,
he said.
Cops down laying on TOP OF my head.
COPS DOWN KNEELING ON MY THROAT
LOOKING TO MAKE ME CHOKE
