My husband would kill me if he knew how hot I am for his twin brother.

I take a gulp of the sangria we’re drinking on the back deck and tilt my face up into the warm evening breeze. After a long and wet spring, summer is finally here and everyone in the city is spending as much time outdoors as possible, reveling in the warmth, scared it will disappear. The weather in Portland can be like that.

Lizzie! Are you even paying attention? There’s an exasperated tone to Artie’s voice. Everything has been tense between my husband and I lately, and we take it out on each other in all the little ways that couples do. A sharp word here. A cutting glance there. A lack of touch in bed.

The latter is particularly problematic, since we’re trying to get pregnant.

Though when Artie is like this, sometimes I start rethinking our marriage and whether or not he’d make a good father. I don’t want my child to have a short-tempered father or a father who ignores them.
