About this ebook

Taking over the Imaida Organsation? Easy.

Discussing their feelings? Not so easy.

Hiroshi was falling for hard for the two men who'd walked into his life. One his boss and the object of his unrequited desire. The other a man who'd entered their lives through deception before exposing the secrets Hiroshi kept close to his heart. Two men in love with each other, who'd then welcomed Hiroshi into their bed and given him a glimpse of a life he'd never thought possible.

And yet as the assassins' bullets fly and their enemies gather, Hiroshi struggles to figure out where he fits into this new reality…into Sagaki and Kirushima's relationship. He no longer wants to be a convenient third, a toy to be passed between Sagaki and Kirushima until they grow bored with him.

How long until they discard him?

Does he wait, or leave first?

Or can Sagaki and Kirushima convince Hiroshi that they want more… that they want forever.

    Author Note

THE TOKYO NIGHTS NOVELLAS are a companion series to the Tokyo Nights series. They can be read independently of the main series, but if you’re curious as to where they fit into the timeline then... Sagaki’s book takes place after Deadly Game, Kirushima’s takes place after Deadly Gamble... and Hiroshi’s takes place after Deadly Gifts.

    Chapter One

HIROSHI STEPPED INTO the private, hidden area of the bathhouse in Kabukicho and stared at the man still strung above the bath. A very dead man. Tendrils of smoke still drifted off the man’s skin after Hisato Shibata—a Shinjuku Police Detective, and lover of Tatsuo Ogawa, Shinjuku Ward Boss for the Yamashita Organisation—had tortured the man with electricity. Easy enough to do. All it took was altering the current running through the water until the shocks emitted saw jaws clench hard enough to break teeth. Wasn’t like Hiroshi hadn’t watched Sagaki do it before. But it wasn’t the manner in which the man had been killed that Hiroshi was opposed to, or that his boss, Sagaki, had watched it with an excited glee... no, it was who the man was and what his death represented that sent fear rippling through Hiroshi.

    War.

    Bloodshed.

    Divided loyalties.

Sagaki was already walking on thin ice with Shirokawa, the head of the Imaida Organisation, and already been punished twice before because of the friendship he’d struck up with Shibata who’d been undercover at the time. A dangerous friendship that had seen Sagaki lose a finger after helping Shibata to orchestrate the abduction of the soon to be former head of the Yamashita’s lover. One that had endured even after Shibata had returned to the police force, and Hiroshi struggled to understand why.

Shibata’s involvement with Ogawa had thrown the Yamashita into a civil war.

His involvement with Sagaki threatened to do the same to the Imaida.

Hiroshi might not like or understand the connection between his boss and the detective, but his loyalties would always remain with Sagaki. He’d support him from the shadows and shield from the assassins’ bullets that came for his boss in increasing numbers since his return to Kabukicho.

Sighing, Hiroshi scrubbed his face and turned to the men waiting for orders patiently behind him. He instructed two of them to remove the body of the unlucky Yamashita member and dump it on the train tracks on the other side of Ginza. The remaining men he gave the unenviable task of cleaning the baths until not a speck of blood could be seen. It meant closing the bathhouse—both the private and public areas—for the day to achieve it, but the loss of income was preferable to leaving evidence for a determined police detective to find later.

Satisfied his orders would be followed, Hiroshi strode back up the stairs to the manager’s office and disappeared back through the secret passageway that led into a popular Imaida club. Hiroshi secured the door as he left the office and headed down to the main floor where another cleanup was being undertaken. Broken glass, spilt alcohol, overturned tables, and busted up chairs were all that remained from the Yamashita attack on the Imaida business as they hunted for Shibata.

Just another reminder—as he surveyed the damage—of the havoc Sagaki’s friendship with Shibata had brought to their lives. Honestly, if it’d been left up to him, Hiroshi would have handed Shibata over to the Yamashita without a second thought. He saw no sense in getting dragged into another organisation’s internal conflict when Sagaki wasn’t secure in his own position within the Imaida.

But the decision hadn’t been up to him.

He just cleaned up the mess left behind.

Hiroshi... is the boss expecting us to open this place tonight? Manaki asked, picking his way through the broken remains of the bar he’d managed for Sagaki for the last three years.

Hiroshi surveyed the damage and winced. Getting it all cleaned up was going to be a mammoth task, especially when a lot of the furniture and most of the alcohol that had been stored behind the bar needed to be replaced. No. Aim for a reopening two nights from now. It’ll cost us weekend sales, but there’s no point in being open if we don’t have anything for our customers to drink... or anywhere for them to sit."

    What about the police?

The usual drill. Play dumb. Anything of importance is already being moved offsite even if they wish to use tonight’s incident as a reason to search the premises further... and I think it goes without saying, but there is to be no mention of Kirushima or Shibata having been here, he told the club manager with a hardened stare.

    No problem.

Casting one last appraising gaze over the bar, Hiroshi headed for the door and stepped onto the now quiet Kabukicho street. He wasn’t surprised to find the sun already creeping over the horizon and pushing away the shadows cast by the neon lights that dominated the area when the sky was at its darkest. People drifted along the streets, tired weary workers from the clubs and bars who were headed for the train station. Workers who’d sleep through the day only to return to Kabukicho once the streets were once more cloaked in darkness.

Hiroshi walked in the opposite direction away from the train station and toward a nearby alley where his vehicle was parked. He climbed inside, affixed his cell phone to the dash and jammed an earpiece in his ear. The handsfree function wasn’t something Hiroshi used often, didn’t need to when he hardly left Sagaki’s side but sometimes it couldn’t be helped, like tonight. He glanced at the time displayed on the dash and wondered how long before Sagaki rang him. It might have been barely two hours since he’d last seen his boss, however the man had developed an intense dislike of their being separated since his conflict with the head of the Imaida had intensified.

Sure enough, Hiroshi had barely pulled out onto the main road heading away from Shinjuku and toward his apartment building in the neighbouring ward of Toshima when his phone rang.

    Shouldn’t you be asleep, Boss?

    You’re not here. Can’t sleep.

Leather creaked as Hiroshi gripped the steering wheel, resisting the urge to take the next ramp off the motorway and head for Chuo where Sagaki lived with Kirushima.

    Where’s Kirushima?

He’s headed over to Odaiba. There was an unexpected problem at the port that he needed to sort out.

Hiroshi’s grip on the steering wheel grew painful. He’d been in love with his boss long before the now former TMPD detective, Ikue Kirushima had stepped into Sagaki’s life. His feelings had been carefully hidden from Sagaki, but not well enough that Kirushima hadn’t noticed, the man yanking them out into the open and Hiroshi wasn’t sure if it had been a
