    Introduction

    Stay Focused on Jesus

Peter is considered the rock of the church yet he failed Jesus several times.  We can fail Jesus and still we can find redemption or that second chance.  Peter was a most dedicated apostle.  We will focus on the story of the second person in the Bible to walk on water.  Jesus had been healing and preaching to a crowd of five thousand men, not including women and children.  As evening approached, Jesus took what food they had, five loaves and two fishes, and performed a miracle.  He gave thanks to God, His father, and there was food for everyone with twelve buckets full of broken pieces that were left over.

And straightway Jesus constrained his disciples to get into a ship, and to go before him unto the other side, while he sent the multitudes away. And when he had sent the multitudes away, he went up into a mountain apart to pray: and when the evening was come, he was there alone.  But the ship was now in the midst of the sea, tossed with waves: for the wind was contrary.  And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.  And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.  But straightway Jesus spoke unto them, saying, be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.  And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou; bid me come unto thee on the water.  And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.  But when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink, he cried, saying, Lord, save me.  And immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him, and said unto him, O thou of little faith, wherefore didst thou doubt? Matthew 14:22-31

Peter had enough courage to even get out of the boat.  He had faith; a lot of faith to try that.  Peter's problem was that he let Satan whisper in his ear: you can't do this, and you should be fearful.  He let in the doubt and took his eyes off of Jesus.

How many times have you taken your eyes off of Jesus and been distracted?

For I say unto you, that except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.  Matthew 5:20

    CHAPTER 1

    WHAT IS SIN?

Many will say that the law that God gave Moses was eliminated by Jesus.  Jesus came to change salvation or the releasing of sin.  He came to change our covenant with God legally because God is a legal God.

We are taught that Biblical passages in red are quoting Jesus.  These are His words.

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.  Matthew 5:17-20

The Book of Leviticus is a book of Law that has guided Jewish and Christian believers for over four thousand years.    God’s law was laid out for us in the books of Leviticus and Deuteronomy and defines what sin is.  God gave it to us to know what not to do.  Many teachers today say throw out the Old Testament.  That is not what Jesus said above.  Some churches that are supposed to teach His word are not.  They are changing the word to suit their mood.  They are false teachers.  Jesus says above that not one jot or tittle shall pass from the law until all be fulfilled.  That is talking about Jesus’ return for the millennial reign.

We need both Testaments, they support one another.  One predicts the other. Some of the dietary law was what prevented disease in an unclean world.  Some are still good.  I am going to cite some of more relevant ones when it comes to modern sin.

None of you shall approach to any that is near of kin to him, to uncover their nakedness: The nakedness of thy father, or the nakedness of thy mother, shalt thou not uncover: she is thy mother; thou shalt not uncover her nakedness. The nakedness of thy father's wife shalt thou not uncover: it is thy father's nakedness.
