Saying YES to Your CALLING - Peggy W. Lester

    Seed of Truth #1

    Identifying Your Call and Destiny

"… for I know the plans that I have for you,’ declares the

Lord, plans for welfare and not for calamity to give you a

future and a hope." Jeremiah 29:11

No matter who you are, this is God’s destiny for you. His plan for your creation is good. The way you accomplish your Calling is as diverse as people in our world; it is unique as your fingerprints are unique.

God had been silent for many years because His people turned away from Him in sin. Before God created him in his mother’s womb, God called Jeremiah and commissioned him to be a prophet to His people. (Jeremiah 1:5)

A simple definition of destiny is that God knew you even before you were born, and He has a plan for your life. It’s called your future or destiny. God knew Jeremiah and placed a call on his life before he ever drew his first breath. Psalms 139 confirms this, as well. The conception and birth of John the Baptist, called to be the forerunner of Jesus, is another example. God spared Moses’ life because of the call on his life to deliver his people from bondage in Egypt.

Hadassah (better known as Esther) had a call on her life to become queen. God called her to intercede, so His chosen people could be delivered from their enemy’s hand.

"Elijah was a man with a nature like ours, and

he prayed earnestly that it might not rain, and

it did not rain on the earth for three years and

six months. And he prayed again, and the sky

poured rain, and the earth produced its fruit."

    (James 5:17-18)

There was nothing special about Elijah in the human sense. He believed in God and responded in obedience. As in most experiences, our Calling comes in stages. The Bible says He desires to use us to further His Kingdom. But we go to Him as a child, so it takes time to mature into our destiny.

    1. Have I identified my Calling, the destiny God has ordained for me? Can I put it down on paper, i.e., time, date, words spoken to me either by the Lord or through the confirmation of a servant of His?

    2. What is my vision? The Bible encourages us to write our visions down. (Habakkuk 2:2) Take time to write down my Godly dreams.

    3. Have I embraced my destiny and discovered my Calling? Spend time in prayer and ask God for directions and revelations.

    The First Call is Salvation—

    Position Yourself

Iwas a stay-at-home mom until our sons entered school. I then went to work at a bank. I left the banking business after a few years to become a legal secretary in a law office. After gaining several years of legal secretary experience, I chose another law firm in a bigger city for a pay increase. Many different lifestyles and temptations in this law firm were unlike any I had experienced in my small country life. This job brought experiences into our marriage and home life that didn’t go along with our regular church attendance. Don and I had grown up in church, but we did not know the Lord personally and were not living for Him. We attended church, but that was about all. We both made some bad decisions during this
