Karen looked out her office window at the growing gloom. It wasn’t only the darkness of the evening that was making the sky black and she turned to her friend.

We should get going, she said. It looks like the skies are about to open up.

Rain? Carol asked as she looked up from the work she was doing.

Karen rolled her eyes. Good call smart girl, she joked. And exactly what else were you expecting to fall from the sky.

Carol shook her head and laughed. Shut up, she complained at the teasing. She looked back down at her desk and finished the work she was doing before standing up to walk to the window.

Oh yeah…, she agreed. It looks pretty bleak out there.

The two women were quick to move over to the coat hooks to get their jackets. Two minutes later they were standing on the sidewalk saying goodbye and headed off in opposite directions. Karen stepped up her pace to get home, but as the light drops of rain started to fall suspected
