Connor Whiteley

Hello, I'm Connor Whiteley, I am an 18-year-old who loves to write creatively, and I wrote my Brownsea trilogy when I was 14 years old after I went to Brownsea Island on a scout camp. At the camp, I started to think about how all the broken tiles and pottery got there and somehow a trilogy got created. Moreover, I love writing fantasy and sci-fi novels because you’re only limited by your imagination. In addition, I'm was an Explorer Scout and I love camping, sailing and other outdoor activities as well as cooking.Furthermore, I do quite a bit of charity work as well. For example: in early 2018 I was a part of a youth panel which was involved in creating a report with research to try and get government funding for organised youth groups and through this panel. I was invited to Prince Charles’ 70th birthday party and how some of us got in the royal photograph. Finally, I am going to university and I hope to get my doctorate in clinical psychology in a few years.

Brownsea Fantasy Collection - Connor Whiteley

    Prologue

It’s 2030. The world has changed; all of the peace is lost along with the happiness. Only the darkness remains and yet there is hope.

It all began in the country of Brownsea. It was a merry place full of smiles as well as peace.

However, the years of peace were not to last. They were just boats at first; spots in the vast ocean. However, then... the cannons fired. Balls of fire screaming through the air destroy all life. One by one all ten cities of Brownsea fell to the new invaders but there were some who resisted...

A last alliance between the survivors and some other foreign allies marched against the Dark Lord Nemiel and his vile forces in the capitol to free Brownsea.

Bullets and gunfire ripped through the enemy’s metal amour. Retreating as fast as cheetahs they hide.

Victory was near that day or was it?

The great leader of the rebellion ‘Arry and his wife Ruby fought hard to ensure freedom.

However, there was one last boss to face... the Dark Lord Nemiel came out to play. We challenged him although now we would regret it, only slightly. With a swift duel Nemiel killed me and my husband with a slice through the heart. While our brave children Kieron and Justin watched...

From that day the rebellion still lives on carrying out meaningless small attacks. Justin stayed with the rebellion and Kieron left, grieving over the loss of his parents. Ten years later, he has returned.

    Chapter 1

He has returned, the Dark Lord Nemiel stated in a calm voice full of malice as he wandered slowly to his dark throne that was engulfed by shadow in the jet black throne room. He sat down gracefully.

He was wearing a long black robe which only covered his corrupt black armour with a crimson dragon pattern on the chest plate. Overall, Nemiel was a raven- metaphorically.

To his left was Agent X, Nemiel’s best agent and one of his best assassins. He was in his favourite clothes which were his black armour which was lovingly attached to his blood red cape. Some of the men say that the blood of his enemies is what dyed it. The Agent of Darkness was a fox, as proved over the years. Furthermore, his face had been hardened by years of war although there was a gentleness in his black eyes.

Who, my lord? Agent X asked with a puzzled look on his face.

Kieron Lord of the First Company and... stated Nemiel however he was cut off by the person on his right.

Who was Lord Death, who - as you can guess - was the master of death, destruction and pain. Basically, he was Nemiel’s ideal friend. His body completely covered in foul coal black armour and on his evil head he wore a terrifying death mask. It was as black as soot and whenever you looked at it a chill ran down your very spine. Freezing every single neurone down it! On the mask was a skull design. It was apparently a design of his own skull, but who knows?

Son of ‘Arry and Ruby, he said with pride.

Thank you, however I thought he was dead, said Agent X.

You fool, Nemiel said with a laugh. No he just left for ten years, grieving for his parents.

    So they say, Death said.

What happen after the final battle, I mean for Kieron? Agent X questioned.

Next, Nemiel stood up very quickly and smiled. Then he explained what happened, walking around the room trying to scare X as he did it.

As I stabbed ‘Arry in the heart Ruby screamed cursing me with all types of words then naturally I laughed. With all of the fury of the world she charged at me. Within a minute I sliced her little loving heart as well. She could have killed me however as me and Kieron both agree if you fight with fury; you fight badly. Luckily the First Company was near and Kieron saw it all, along with his bother Justin, Lord of the Second Company, and ordered everyone to retreat. Kieron and his company merely stood there giving me a death stare. Next they just fell back into the night and the next day Kieron was gone.

Why didn’t you kill the First? the Agent said.

Because he wanted Kieron to live and always live with death’s foul sting, Lord Death stated.

Oh you know me all too well, chucked Nemiel.

Let me hunt him down; if I crush him now then what hope is there for the rebellion? Let me redeem myself for my silly question this evening, Agent X said with hope in his voice.

No my friend we can send the army in later but for now let Kieron run free! Nemiel boomed. We will kill him but I want to see what hope he brings to the once great rebellion.

    ***

Firstly: what is Brownsea you’re probably wondering? Brownsea is an island to the south of England. It is full of people of all shapes and sizes.. In addition, animals fill Brownsea such as red squirrels, peacocks and deer. According to Brownsea folk law it was said that were very trusting.

Once, ‘Arry was walking home running away from Lord Death who was hunting. Lord Death caught up with ‘Arry and was about to kill him suddenly out of nowhere a deer came out and attacked the Lord. The deer died but it allowed ‘Arry to escape. ‘Arry took the injured deer back to the Base to try to heal it, except it died in ‘Arry’s arms.

Kieron strolled happily along the shores of Brownsea which were littered with roof tiles, bricks and pipes from the houses that were destroyed houses when Nemiel took over Brownsea. Kieron was a slim, blond boy who wore a top and trousers but if you looked closely enough under the top was a bullet proof vest and on his belt was a beautifully handcrafted dagger made by him. Furthermore, there was a gun however it wasn’t just a gun to Kieron - it was his father’s gun and it could fire any bullet.. Finally, a Lord Sword was given to the Lord of each of the four companies in was a wonderful shade of blue and with a red handle. Additionally, on his back Kieron had a black 25 litre rucksack on. It was quite full but who knows what was inside?

He wandered slowly, yet purposefully because he knew that the rebellion did a sweep of the area every hour.

The Rangers, as they were called, were as silent as the night, as cold as ice and as accurate as can be. The Rangers tended to follow their prey before killing, sometimes for weeks, although, in Kieron’s case they hadn’t even found him yet. With ten years of covering his tracks who could blame the Rangers for not finding him. Just for a laugh he purposefully made mistakes so they could track him.

Brownsea hadn’t changed much in the past ten years to Kieron because it was still the freshest, most wonderful home he had missed. Therefore, why did he leave?

As Kieron continued into the forest a cold breeze push him to quicken his pace to the rebel base and then- he heard a sound; it was a sound that he had not heard in such a long time. It was Nemiel’s men hunting down the rebels. Kieron wondered what they looked like after ten years.

He quickly, yet stealthily, ran to a nearby tree to get a clear view of the foul soldiers. They were all dressed in the same armour but unlike their leaders, their armour was sliver with golden trim around the shoulder plates. Their helmets were thick metal and covered all of their face; their eyes were covered in red glass and the mouthpiece was a grid that you could change your voice to make it scare or whatever you want. They were all strongly built with a lot of muscle. You could see clearly that there wasn’t a centimetre of fat on them - which was odd considering how much they ate. Lastly, they all carried AK-47s with a combat knife that was long and sharp at their waists.

Where is the trail now? ordered the commander in his shiny armour.

I... I don’t know, said a small boy kneeling on the ground attempting to retrace the trail.

You’re meant to be the master tracker here! the commander said with anger in his voice.

Not everybody could have got you this far, ugly, snapped the tracker.

True, but you keep failing us, he said with a smile, calmly.

Well the... the rebels are... um... um clever, the Tracker now being very nervous. Rightfully so wouldn’t you agree?

Making excuses after excuses, the Commander said with a bit of anger in his voice. It’s almost like you want them to escape.

The small tracker swallowed hard since the next thing was inevitable. He thought it best to come clean. What a fool he was.

There will always be hope here on Brownsea and all of you will dead.

    Will we? screamed the Commander.

Suddenly, the whole squad took a step back out of fear, since they knew what was going to happen. The commander took a deep breath then like lighting he took out his pistol, which was a normal standard pistol with a golden handle. Putting two shots into the tracker’s chest he laughed. Therefore, the squad thought that it was okay to laugh - so they did. The scary thing was as the shots went into the chest they exploded.

Kieron was a bit shocked at the act because of how evil it was. He wanted a shot at the leader so he took a step forward however... snap! A stick broke then he darted back behind the tree to safety, he thought.

Their leader instantly heard it, so did the men. Slowly, they advanced around the tree. Kieron’s heart was racing - it was as loud as a gun going off. Kieron gathered all of his courage, got out his father’s gun, put it on fully automatic and stepped out of his cover.

Say hello to my gun. Yes you will all die! Kieron screamed unleashing a wall of bullets at the men. By the time they realized what hit them they were already dead. With only the leader left; a bit of fear griped Kieron.

Rebel, are you ready to die? the commander said smugly.

    Are you? Kieron shot back.

Before that commander could even think about pulling the trigger, Kieron put five shots into that monster’s chest. He died instantly. The Lord of the first felt such joy then took the commander’s pistol as a trophy.

As he walked away he got pushed to the floor by something in a green robe. As a reflex he draw his sword to defend himself, except as he got up he was surrounded by the green robed men. They were slim boys - probably only 25 years old. You couldn’t see their faces except Kieron was good at guessing people’s ages. Instead of guns, these people carried bows and arrows oddly. It was odd because no one used them any more since they were the reason why they lost a key battle to the south.

What happened was that a small village called the Wooden City was trying to defend themselves while the Second Company; who was Kieron’s brother’s company; was on their way. The village had minimal guns along with cannons so they used arrows. Unfortunately, the soldier’s armour was too thick and not a single soldier died that day sadly. However, 4,000 men, women and children got murdered. It was a key battle because if we lost than it would give Nemiel another location to deploy his soldiers from.

By the time the Second got there the village was on fire, burning brightly like a torch in the night. The other 3,500 people who lived in the burning village were enslaved to work in the dark mining to find metals to fuel Nemiel’s wars on Brownsea. Or they were working in the dangerous and deadly forges making everything from guns to ship from ship to planes and so on.

Very impressive sir, said a shady tall figure in one of the light green robes.

I would thank you except I know what you are, Kieron said with caution.

Put your sword down and who are we then? said another man.

Firstly you are The Ranger of the rebellion and I will not lay down my sword, Kieron said with pride.

Good night, the leader ranger said with a laugh, then Kieron realized what he meant however it was too late as Kieron’s world went black.

    Chapter 2

It was a small, cold dark room. Probably, one built of stone like the rooms in castles. It was lit by candlelight.

As Kieron awoke the world was a haze. The castle-like room was like night because of a thin mesh black bag over his head. The bag got ripped off by a shadowy figure.

He tried to move however he was tied tightly, by thick rope, to a wooden chair. That was held in place by chains. A bit obsessive?

He could partially see three figures in front of him lit by the small fire of the candles. The one closest to him was a tall man with goatee beard and a square head. He had a bullet in his head diagonal to his right eye.

Due to the Battle of Five Companies, what happened was that the Fifth Company was owned by a Lord who was on Nemiel’s side then the rebellion found out. Therefore, the other four companies fought against him to stop the first rebellion’s secret from getting to Nemiel. Little did they know that there were traitors in the other companies until they strike. Because of that, in theory all of the companies were at war with each other. It was quite the one hour of heresy.

The bullet got there by a traitor who shot the man and it would have killed him. Luckily, Kieron stabbed the traitor as he was about to fire therefore the shot went at an angle. This man was called Harry, Head of Security. The other two were merely his bodyguards.

Kieron was in Fear’s crippling hand because he didn’t know what was going to happen nor did he know who was in front of him. The Rangers were new to him since the first rebellion did not have them, even though they had attacked him.

Kieron liked them for their stealth and tracking abilities. Furthermore, he liked their green robes for their elegancy and camouflage.

You are interesting sir, Harry said in a calm and truthful voice.

You cannot be mad at me for killing them instead of you? Kieron said, almost laughing. Then he felt the blade of a dagger against his throat from one of the guards. The dagger was like an icicle against his throat.

No, we aren’t mad at you more... proud of you, Harry said with a stare. Now more importantly, who are you?

How about you tell me your name and why you are so proud of me and in exchange I will give you mine, Kieron said as serious as can be.

Fair enough, Harry said in a deep voice. Except what Kieron didn’t know was that Harry waved his hand to his tell the guard to be ready to spilt Kieron’s throat. I’m proud of you because of it is good to see a citizen of Brownsea stepping up to the Dark Lord Nemiel. My name is...

Harry, Head of Security, my old friend, Kieron said remembering something about Harry. And I’m far from a citizen of Brownsea.

How the hell do you know me? Mere man, Harry said outraged, signalling the guard to move the knife into position. Now name! he bellowed.

You know me by many names and I have fought many wars and battles. We have fought side by side and kill many foes, Kieron said this as if it was a riddle. Names like The Cook, The Angel and finally... the ... Lord of the... First.

Kieron had the nickname The Cook; was he was once the Head Chef of the rebellion. He was a master of food and just the best chef that ever lived,

Now The Angel nickname is more of a story. You will only one know half of the story for now, because in battle and training exercises at night Kieron would travel alone then one minute he would be there and the next he would be somewhere completely different! Also, he was very creepy by doing this. He slowly taught his whole Company how to do it and their slogan was ‘We strike before our enemy see and by the time they see us the damage is already done’.

    Kieron? Harry asked.

Yes, son of ‘Arry and Ruby and brother of Justin, Kieron answered, pleased that he remembered him.

No, you went M.I.A ten years ago, Harry said in disbelief. But to prove it we will perform a D.N.A test on you, okay?

If you must, plus don’t you mean deoxyribonucleic acid? Kieron said simply.

Since Harry believed him; as a result of the Kieron he knew loved science and there was something in the voice; he made the guard drop the dagger.

Meanwhile, the other guard got a syringe and took 60ml of blood out of The Angel.

You should just sleep, and no sooner had Harry said those words the guard injected Kieron with a sleeping agent and The Cook was back to dreamland again.

Harry and his guard locked The Lord of the First in the room and went to the laboratory.

    ***

Meanwhile, word of the execution of the tracking squad had got back to Nemiel.

Nemiel sat proudly in his throne and Lord Death stood creepily in front of him. What to do? Nemiel said with an evil smile because he knew what he was already going to do. We’re going to let it play out.

It was very impressive how he just shot them all and then The Rangers... Lord Death stated.

Don’t speak of Rangers to me! shouted Nemiel full of anger. Rangers are weak and easy to kill that what the squad was hunting!

You should have allowed me to play with them, the Lord of Death said with the most evil smile ever.

Nemiel laughed hard and long since he was pleased to see his friend happy and enjoying himself being evil.

I would have but I had my suspicions about the tracker and I was right. He was a rebel as part of a sleeper cell of ten. However, we only have found four and killed four after your extended torturing, Nemiel explained.

This proves that Kieron is dangerous I want him dead! Lord Death screamed like a madman.

Nemiel’s face froze as his body filled with anger, hate, fury and rage because he felt that his friend had forgotten his place. He shot up from his evil throne and picked Lord Death up by his throat and squeezed a little.

You are my friend and my favourite soldier but YOU NEVER FORGET THAT I AM IN CHARGE! you could hear Nemiel’s shouts from the other side of the world. Then he threw the Lord into the hard marble wall to his left. Lord Death got up slowly only to see Nemiel with his sword, black, twisted, drawn.

I thought I could trust you not to overthrow me.

I am a Lord of Death and I must kill our enemies.

As quick as lightning Nemiel turned about and the sword was at the Lord’s chin between the mask and the body armour.

    Who do you serve?

    The Dark Lord, Nemiel.

Nemiel pushed a bit harder on his chin since he wanted more to be said.

My great and powerful master, Lord Death said only out of his version of fear.

Never forget that. I will always be your master and friend. With himself satisfied he happily put his sword away.

Now get up, Nemiel offered his friend a hand as a test of how needy and useful he was. As Lord Death shouldn’t have taken the hand, he punched it away.

    Nemiel smiled.

You will get a chance to kill him and you are dismissed go back to hunting the cell.

Yes my master, Lord Death started to walk away with a slow pace and then turned around.

My master, why do you keep me back sometimes giving others missions and tasks that I will complete certainly.

    Because you’re my best.

Nemiel waved him away and Lord Death walked away feeling good. Then went to do his duty as a nightmare maker!

As Harry entered the massive lab full of all of the latest scientific equipment he was greeted by Mr Frog.

He was the Head Scientist in the rebellion with the face of a frog. Harry was partly grateful to see him and not because once he had lectured him and Kieron about Pathogens. This Kieron was very interested in. Although for five hours Harry wasn’t interested whatsoever.

Hello Harry, how are you? shouted Mr Frog by accident.

Oh hello. I’m fine thank you and how are you?

I am fantastic. Here, let me tell you about my latest project about chemically enhanced enzymes, Mr Frog said full of happiness. Naturally, then he started to lectured Harry about it.

No thank you. I’m got another job for you, something more fun! Harry had to shout very sarcastically because otherwise Mr Frog wouldn’t stop.

Oh sorry, he said sadly. What is it?

I would like you to do a DNA test between this sample and Kieron Edwards.

Harry passed over the blood-filled syringe to him. Anyone could tell that Mr Frog was shocked to hear Kieron’s name after all this time. The two of them walked to the DNA TRIPLE MACHINE which was the best DNA tester in the world. Mr Frog simply put the sample into the machine and programmed some commands into the computer to compare it to Kieron’s DNA sample that was given when he joined the rebellion.

    Five minutes later...

I thought this was the best, moaned Harry.

Well the machine does need to compare the DNA coding in the chromosomes. Like my goes...

Beep, Beep, Beep! The machine went off.

Which was music to Harry’s ears.

The DNA results were in. The sample was... a match! Harry was shocked concurrently with Mr Frog; afterwards Harry began to get choked up to see that his best friend was back.

Other people in the lab started to come over and they were shocked and pleased to see that there was hope for the rebellion to retake Brownsea. All around the room the others said such as: Oh hope has returned.

Death to the false Lord. Announced a lab worker, referring about Nemiel.

The ruler of Brownsea was always called a Lord. The reason why Nemiel is the false Lord is because he shouldn’t be the Lord of Brownsea.

    Freedom for Brownsea.

All other types of cheerful things were being said as well.

    The Angel is back!

Great food will be cooked again.

I must going and talk to the board but after I tell his brother Justin, Harry told Mr Frog.

Go. Scream the angelic message of the rooftops! Mr Frog laughed.

    ***

Justin was like Kieron a lot in some ways: that he was a slim, blond boy and they both had a similar build, in that they both had some muscle and a six pack. A way that was different was that Justin was very popular with all of the ladies and who was always on the hunt for a new girlfriend compared to Kieron who was popular; and happy be single. However, ladies didn’t really bother him.

Justin stood in the arch talking to one of Harry’s bodyguard as she went for a coffee break with another one of her friends.

Hello Justin, guard, Harry said, pleased to see Justin. The guard nodded in acknowledgement and left to meet her friend.

Justin stared at her as she left. She’s not your type.

    You never know, Justin smiled.

I have some news for you.

I am listening, and Justin stepped forward.

Your brother is back, Harry said really quickly because the moment was really awkward.

The two of them stepped into a store cupboard, led by Justin.

When did he come back? Justin said with anger since Kieron hadn’t even contacted him for ten years.

I captured him this morning and chained him up.

Justin got angry because he knew how the Rangers treat their prisoners so he punched Harry, so hard that it knocked Harry off his feet giving him a black eye.

Did I deserve that? Harry said in panic.

Yes, you don’t hurt or mistreat my brother badly do you understand!

Okay, yes I understand I will see to it that he is looked after, said Harry.

Let’s go and release him now. I need to talk to the person.

Okay come on and do not punch me again.

Then don’t give me a reason.

    ***

Nemiel walked down the long dark corridor to where the dark barely lit torture chamber was.

The whole corridor was full of the maddening echo of the screaming as people were cut, beaten or worse simply whatever Lord Death fancied.

Nemiel smiled, knowing that information and malice was being released into the cold bitter air.

Nemiel got to the icy steel door of the torture chamber and with his black claw-like hand he opened the door.

He was greeted by the screams of the new prisoner. Lord Death was enjoying his dark soul in cutting, stabbing and burning a young fat, brown haired coloured boy.

In fact, Lord Death was so caught up in his knife work that he didn’t even hear the Dark Lord Nemiel shut the door with an ear-splitting bang.

The work space was full of all types of devices including a flame thrower, chainsaw, combat knife and many more.  Behind were even worse devices that are too horrible for words.

Tell me who your rebel friends are, Lord Death said devilishly.

Never, was all the fat boy could say, as his stomach was slowly filling up with his own blood.

Oh well good bye, now you can burn.

Lord Death gave the biggest smile ever and accidently threw fuel onto the boy and while he was very much alive he lit a match.

The room was full again with annoying screams of pain at least Nemiel thought.

After my beautiful fire what should I do now? Lord Death thought.

You should do nothing now, Nemiel said behind him.

You always could think of what I was thinking.

    I know I could.

What is my task my lord?

There was long pause between the two Lords and the room
