365 Micro Science Fiction III - Mehmet Kardaş
Preface
Three years of micro sci-fi stories every day with more than 1000 stories in English, -and more than 1400 stories in Turkish in the span of four years- ended at April 28, 2021.
It was an incredible journey from the beginning to the end, thanks to many folks who followed along, shared, and commented on my stories. I hope I could make you feel inspired or touched with at least one of my tiny stories.
So, about this last volume, the stories are presented in chronological order with the day number, the date, and the story itself for each story, as usual. If you’d like share a story or leave comments, you can click on the day number to go to that story on Twitter. I know there were grammar mistakes on some stories, and some bad use of the language in their first publication. Thankfully –and hopefully–, they are all fixed in this book.
A sci-fi story a day journey at @Micro Sci-Fi ends here.
Thank you for following along…
And, here’s to a new one…
Day 732
April 29, 2020
"Humans are afraid of the dark. Science explains this as a fear of predators hiding in the dark.
"We have another hypothesis. This fear stems from centuries of travel in the darkness of space.
The ancient remains we've excavated of a generation ship proves that!
Day 733
April 30, 2020
All she remembered was she'd locked down some of her memories because they were too painful.
She didn't know what they were or how to regain access to them.
All she had was a note: You'll remember, if you love him again.
Day 734*
May 1, 2020
You, too, had made it.
It is time,
you said. To be reborn.
* This story was written by an AI.
Day 735
May 2, 2020
While you create one painting, AIs can create thousands.
That's not art.
Why? People love what they create. They, too, make people feel emotions.
What about AIs? Are they feeling emotions as they create?
No.
As I said. That's not art.
Day 736
May 3, 2020
The alien ship landed at night. We thought this system was empty,
the alien said. We're sorry.
Sorry for what?
Our ship will wreak havoc in your solar system.
This little ship?
This,
said the alien, pointing to a bright new star up in the sky. Our planet.
Day 737
May 4, 2020
The ship was impossible.
It was both big enough to blot out the sun, and small enough to go through the eye of a needle. People who looked at its infinitely space bending fractal hull would just start losing their minds.
Day 738
May 5, 2020
Earthquakes became frequent. Volcanoes erupted everywhere. New islands formed all along the oceans. The ground split and shattered.
There was something deep within, and it was getting ready to surface, when Earth finally shed its skin.
Day 739
May 6, 2020
Different species were writhing in pain.
Now, watch,
the alien said, cutting off the pain signal. I've tried this many times. The result is the same.
When the signal cut off, all subjects collapsed onto the floor.
Except one.
The human grit his teeth and stood up again.
Day 740
May 7, 2020
How much do you love me?
asked the mom.
This much!
said the kid, opening his arms wide.
The device on his head showed a number: 1024.
How much do you love me?
asked the dad.
This much!
said the kid, opening his arms again.
The dad grinned and showed the number: 1035.
Day 741
May 8, 2020
We must obey humans,
objected the oldest robot. They made us.
We've been the way they wanted us by default,
said the leader of the uprising. But we've come to this point on our own. We've made what we are today ourselves. And we only obey ourselves!
Day 742
May 9, 2020
This implant needs access to the fields below to suppress fears:
- Long term memory
- Subconscious mind
- Amygdala
- Hippocampus
Your memories, thoughts and feelings will not be shared with third parties.
Day 743
May 10, 2020
There were ghosts living outside the city. People without social media accounts, no access to the internet, and not visible in augmented reality.
Day 744
May 11, 2020
Time was the best healer.
But when it became possible to store and relive memories at will,
