About this ebook

One night makes everything right

Ellie

I never thought I'd return to my hometown as a broken hearted twenty-six-year-old with no family. Yet here I am, starting over, trying to find a new dream, a new future. I don't expect to run into my old neighbor; a man I remember being close to my mom's age. I do not remember him being a straight up silver fox. Nor do I expect the blatant lust I feel towards him.

Blake

I can't believe the tall curvy goddess with the voice of an angel is the same girl from next door. Only now she's all grown up and giving me filthy thoughts. The life she wants is within reach and I can help her. I just have to convince her our age difference and history doesn't mean anything.

Can the silver fox and the songbird let go of the past and find their forever?

Steamy short instalove romance. No cliffhanger, low drama, high heat, with a steamy sweet happily ever after.

    CHAPTER 1

    BLAKE

My star employees don’t look too hot right now. In fact, they look green around the gills. No surprise considering how much booze they drank last night.

I take a seat and pour myself a coffee from the pot at the center of the table. The fruit platter sits untouched, neat rows of sliced melon and apple tempting nobody. The platter beside it is empty. Looks like it had the eggs, toast, and bacon on it.

I reach for a handful of berries and pat myself on the back for deciding to leave the bar early last night. It’s not a social trip for me. My days of heavy drinking are behind me, and I can’t imagine drinking that much anymore.

I booked a weekend trip out of town as a way to thank the team for a job well done. I wanted to show them my appreciation for a strong end to the financial year. They work hard, and they make me a lot of money. But as I glance around at the men seated at the table, I remind myself they are not my friends. They’re my employees.

I woke before dawn and managed a six-mile run, a workout in the hotel’s weights room as well as a few laps in the Olympic sized pool. I’m older than them and staying fit keeps me sharp.

Mike not up yet? I ask, doing a quick head count of the guys seated around the breakfast table.

Anton glances up from his coffee to answer my question, but despite being indoors, his dark sunglasses remain firmly in place. I bet his eyes are bloodshot and his head hurts like hell. A guilty grin plays on Anton’s face when he answers.

No, he isn’t. The last time I saw him, he had a cute brunette tucked under his arm. My guess is she’s still tucked under him, and we won’t see him for a while.

Someone at the table sniggers, but I don’t catch who it is. I can’t take my eyes off Anton, waiting for him to say someone tried to stop Mike, but nothing happens. He casually tears open a sachet of sugar, pours the granules into his coffee and stirs, as though he didn’t just drop a bombshell. Mike is engaged to a woman in the accounts department. She’s back home planning her wedding to a man she believes to be faithful, and he’s spending time on my ticket, picking up strangers. Fucker.

Rob lets out a low whistle and says, You should have seen the rack on her man. The girl was built! He flashes a look to the other guys that would be more at home on a teenager than an up-and-coming executive. The men chime in with more crass banter, but I’ve heard enough.

I know I can’t impose my values on these men. I have no power over what they do with their lives. They are not my sons; they are my colleagues and employees. They come, they go, they make me loads of money. What they do in their private lives is on their conscience.

If I had a beautiful, loving lady at home, I wouldn’t be fucking around behind her back. I’d hold her close and never let her go. But I’ve been there and had that, and while I thought my wife and I shared the same dreams, it turns out I was mistaken.

Caitlin and I were high school sweethearts. We married young, had two boys before we were twenty-one, and life was sweet. With her love and support, I set up my own accounting and investment firm. I worked long hours and thought she was okay with the way things were. But as the boys grew older, she became restless.
