Do Not Leave Me - Spondon Ganguli

    Preface

    ––––––––

It was a stormy night. A woman was driving her car at high speed with her two-month-old baby at the back seat. She knew very well that it was the race for the sake of her and her baby’s life. She had to escape out from there. She also did not know whether reaching her parents at Sakon Nakhon, will save her or not. From Bangkok, she had started her journey of escape by road and till Khan Kaen, by God’s grace, she has been escaping from every imminent danger but a few kilometres away from Kalasin when her car met with an accident on the highway she lost her nerve.

She was injured, but fortunately, her baby was safe. She left her car and started looking for help before the chasers could catch her. While asking for assistance, she observed a black car pass by her, followed by another one. She identified both the cars and understood they were searching for her and soon would come back here spotting the accident. She left the hope of assistance and started running away from the highway holding her baby tightly to her chest. Luckily, there were long grasses in the field near the highway, where she could hide with her baby. The two cars returned to the spot and began hunting for the woman and her baby.

They, first of all, reached near the car wreckage and looked for some human trace and then scattered in all possible directions. The woman observed everything hiding behind the long grasses; suddenly, the baby cried out. Now she had no other way than to run from there as fast as she could to move out of the sight of those people. She knew who these people were and why they were after them and wanted to kill them. Having heard the sound of the child’s cry, those people started searching for them in the field, following the source of the sound. When she understood that there was no ray of hope to get rid of them, she decided to move away from her baby so that at least the baby could be saved. Seeing no other option, she left her baby under a tree in the safest possible spot and started moving away. Suddenly she was stopped by another woman with a wrinkled face, shabby clothes which were covered with mud.

Why are you leaving this baby over here? By the way, who are you? You do not seem to be a local person here! asked the mud-covered woman.

Listen, please, I have no time to explain all this now. It is a matter of life and death for my baby. You, please take him and go away from here quickly and protect my baby.

But how can I trust you? I feel you might have stolen someone else’ baby and are trying to pass it on to me, the woman replied.

No, please trust me for Lord Buddha’s, sake. I cannot explain all these. They will reach here anytime.

Then you too can come along. Let us see what we can do. I stay a few kilometres away from here, said the woman.

No, it is not possible. If we all get caught together, none can escape. I have to leave my child and divert the chasers to another direction. If luck permits, I will meet my baby again.

Saying so, she kissed her baby for the last time and then handed him over to the woman. She stuffed some grass borrowed from the woman, covered it with her cloth to make it look like her baby, and left the place.

Then she attracted the attention of the goons and started running in the opposite direction to take them away from her baby. After a few minutes of cat and rat-chase, they caught hold of her and hacked her to death but could not get the baby. As it was time for sunrise, the high road got busy with vehicles and people migrating for work to the town, they abandoned the search and returned.

    Many years later...

RN Industries Private Limited was not a small enterprise but rather a significant and well-established business organization that had its business spread across many countries in East Asia, India, and the United States. The major business domains of the company had been Real Estate, Fertilisers, Computer Software and IT Services, Jewelry Business and Automobiles. Mr Rudra Narayan Dutt, who was basically from India, had settled in Bangkok for more than a decade was a multi-millionaire industrialist and the owner of RN Industries.

He was one of the wealthy and successful business owners in the entire region. He was a very energetic and motivational person. From an early age, he had kick-started his business initiative all by himself. His ancestral home was in Rajasthan, India but he travelled a lot and settled here in Bangkok, built his business empire during his mid-forties. Within ten years, he had become one of the most successful businessmen of South East Asia.

Mr Ravi Narayan Dutt, the elder brother of Rudra Narayan, was an unmarried person. He was a trustworthy person to his younger brother. Ravi Narayan looked after the finance and managed many business deals whenever Rudra Narayan went out of the country. Rudra Narayan always obeyed his elder brother and trusted him for his wisdom and intelligence. Ravi Narayan often wondered how his brother’s business grew faster, compared to the others in the market. No doubt that Ravi Narayan had dedicated his life to look after his younger brother's company, yet he had his own questions in his mind.

Rudra Narayan's brother-in-law, Dileep, did nothing and stayed with him and his family looked after household matters and used Rudra Narayan's money for his various escapades. Dileep had come to Bangkok at his sister's request and he had waited for this opportunity for many years. He had completed his graduation in India and then thought of finding an easy job with a comfortable salary and no heavy responsibility. So, when Rudra Narayan's father-in-law requested him to look for some suitable work and commitment in his business for Dileep, he could not refuse his father-in-law, though he knew well that this fellow was good for nothing.

Rudra Narayan's wife also insisted on allowing Dileep to come to Bangkok and stay with them as she felt lonely there, far from her relatives and friends altogether they are a happy-and-complete family.

    Chapter – 1:

    Love you, Bangkok

    ––––––––

A van was drifting through the streets of Bangkok. The van then took a sudden turn into an alley and was rushing through it. Saki and his team of five members, including Aat, were in the van.

We are almost there, said Aat pointing towards the nightclub. The van was quite near to Sukhumvit by then.

Good! Stop the van at a deserted place, said Saki while looking around the alley. He then glanced at his watch; it was 12:49 am. He continued after a pause, I hope all of you remember your responsibilities and tasks. No mistakes are permitted. Aat, you will come with me.

    ***********

    Bangkok!

Thailand's capital. The world knows the Thai capital as Bangkok, but locals refer to their city as Krungthep or 'City of Angels'. You all know Thailand as a land of surprises and beautiful beach resorts, but Thailand is the only Southeast Asian country that the European powers did not or could not colonise. In fact, in the Thai language, the country's name is Prathet Thai, which means land of the free.

    ––––––––

So, why is Bangkok so famous? Thailand's capital city attracts millions of people from all over the globe. It has much to offer in its historical architecture and traditions dating back to hundreds of years. Tourists flock to this place from all over the world.

Bangkok has a bit of everything, from excitement and chaos to freedom, beauty, and adventure. The city is popular for thriving street life, cultural landmarks, and the red-light districts. The Grand Palace and Buddhist temples, including WatArun and Wat Pho stand in contrast to other tourist attractions such as the nightlife scenes of Khaosan Road and Patpong.

There is no denying that Bangkok's sights, attractions, and city life appeal to diverse groups of tourists. They are usually frequenting a variety of tourist attractions mostly, historical, like the temples, royal palaces, with elaborate architecture and arts.  Shopping and dining experiences offer a range of choices and prices.

The immensity of the city and its bustling streets can intimidate a novel tourist, but those who spend some time in Bangkok get quickly enamoured by the myriad of attractions.

Pavel Rudra Narayan Dutt, the sole heir of RN Industries, was a lucky brat since he had been born with a silver spoon in his mouth.

Pavel was a young, fair skinned, handsome boy, in his late teens with a bright shiny face and thick textured short fringed hairstyle on the sides, giving him an adorable look. He was stylish, had a perfect body and flawless skin; which made girls drool over him.

He was a first-year engineering student who enjoyed his life to the fullest, with little concern for studies and other curricula. He couldn’t live without parties, drinks and girls. His world consisted of flattering friends, both boys and girls; of them, Jazz was closest to his heart. Pavel relied heavily on Jazz to vent out all his worries and frustrations.

Pavel was a frequent visitor to nightclubs and loved to be in the company of girls. By the tender age of nineteen, he had experienced the pleasures of alcohol and all other vices; he had never been to India and didn't want to go there either. Pavel's father Rudra Narayan enquired about his well-being and studies regularly and reprimanded him with threats to send him to India whenever he was found to be at fault. Pavel enjoys his freedom in Thailand and was often saved by his uncles Ravi and Dileep when Rudra Narayan admonished him. Ravi Narayan was more like a shield, who supported Pavel, whenever the need arised for justification of the activities of the juvenile delinquent.

Pavel found his Uncle Dileep to be nosy at times, presumably because of following Rudra Narayan's instructions, but Pavel managed him cleverly. Pavel's mother was a typical Indian woman, always busy in household activities and prayers. Sometimes, Pavel wondered why his mother was so much into
