A re you really leaving me? Seriously, please tell me this is a joke! my friend Lucy whines from my bed.

I shake my head, laughing at her. This is the third time she’s asked me the same question in the last hour.

Yes, Luce. I’m so sorry to just up and leave you like this, but this is a great opportunity!

Still pouting, my pretty friend begins taking clothes out of my packed suitcase as I put them in. I laugh again, placing my hand over hers as she looks up at me with puppy dog eyes.

Lucy is a girl in my class whom I’ve become really close with the past year. It’s very hard to leave, especially when she’s giving me this pathetic-yet-adorable look. We’ve become like sisters, and this is going to be a jarring transition for both of us.

Rolling her eyes, she starts repacking the clothes she’s just removed.

"I am happy for you, Mirella. I’m just going to miss you that’s all. But you’re excited about Dineya, right?"

A huge smile creeps over my face.

Honestly, excited isn’t the word. I’ve read so much about the country and I feel like I can picture it already. Heck, I feel like I’ve been there before, you know what I mean?

Lucy’s eyes grow thoughtful. "Well, every time I stop by your room you’re reading something about Dineya. You’re really trying to find yourself a sheikh, aren’t you?" she asks, an eyebrow almost touching her silver blonde hairline.

I giggle.

Oh, of course. Don’t get me wrong, because Hawthorne has given us some great options here. But over there, it’ll just be different. All the courses I’ve taken about the Middle East and their traditions will be put to use and I can’t wait. I just love the history of the region and how long it’s been around, and it’s different you know? I mean, Massachusetts has been around for a few centuries now, but Dineya’s culture spans a few thousand years. I’m just really looking forward to this, I finish with a smile.
