Furry and Famous
Bash had a bad feeling in his gut.
It was almost time for soccer practice with his dog, Lucy. She was a four-legged coach who always led players to the championships with her silly yaps, slobbery kisses, and canine tricks. All the boys on Bash’s team said Lucy taught them soccer by making them feel happy. She made them so happy that they laughed through their goofs, tried new tricks, and ignored the shouts from grown-ups on the sidelines.
But Lucy’s success was exactly why Bash felt nervous as he brushed her. He bent down and stroked his cheek against her floppy ear. He breathed in the familiar scent of rain on fur, a smell he loved more than anything in the world.
All the kids in town wanted his golden retriever to coach them, even the kids who had never kicked a ball. On game day children shouted from the sidelines, begging for his
