Evelyn True

Evelyn True attended Indiana State University. She earned her B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Elementary Education with an endorsement in Reading. During her 38 years as a teacher, she read a wide variety of books to her second and third grade classes. Evelyn loved to watch her students’ faces as she read exciting, happy or sad parts of the books. She knew they were involved in the story when she stopped reading, especially at an interesting place, and they would moan and express their disappointment at having to wait to see what was going to happen next. Evelyn hoped that she instilled the love of reading into many of these curious and imaginative minds. This book, A Pocket For Spring, actually had its beginning when Evelyn was in college. She was required to write a children’s book for one of her classes. Her boyfriend, now husband, drew the original illustrations for the story. Her daughter had seen the book several times as she grew up and recently decided to have it published as a birthday gift for her mother. Evelyn was delighted and overcome with emotion when told that a publisher had already been contacted and was ready to get started. Evelyn decided to revise the story and include the nicknames of her two children. She also wanted to include the names of her grandchildren and great grandchild in the illustrations. The illustrators at the publishing company worked with her and were able to do just what she wanted. Anyone who looks at the pictures should find ten names of people that are very special to the author.
