PETER AND THE MOON

Peter Mullins sat down on the front steps of his school, and opened his backpack. He had borrowed three new books from his school library – and all of them were about his favourite subject; the moon. He was very excited to start reading them right away.

He pretended that he couldn’t hear his best friend, Sophia, call his name from the basketball court. He didn’t want to play basketball. Not today. And he pretended that he couldn’t hear the other kids as they started a game of freeze tag. He didn’t want to play freeze tag right now. All he wanted to do was read his new books.

Peter was so excited to learn about the moon, that he was already halfway through his first library book by the time his mother pulled into the parking lot to pick him up. She had to honk the horn two times to get his attention. Peter grabbed his backpack, and ran over to meet her.

Mom! Peter said, proudly showing off his new library books. "Look at what I checked out of the library! They’re all about the moon.
