Faith Ryan

Faith Ryan is wife to a handsome bearded man and mother to three, yes three, teenage girls. She lives in a small town in Ohio and is a weirdo to the max. She is in love with love of all kinds, especially the dark, dirty, and forbidden. She enjoys torturing her characters, sometimes figuratively and other times literally. Faith’s writing leans to the weird, dark, and unconventional. If you like your stories with a bit of blood and taboo, you’re looking in the right place. But don’t worry, Faith also has a sweet side she lets out on occasion.

Love is Blind - Faith Ryan

    1

    Josh

You’ll be fine. Aidan is going to stay with you. I have to go, Josh. This is my job. I can’t keep putting things off because you’re scared. You need to face things sooner or later.

I adjust the shaded glasses that help hide my eyes, then huff out a breath and listen as my brother Jason packs for a month-long trip to Japan. He’s not wrong, it’s just that I don’t want to. Facing things means accepting, and I don’t much like my current reality, so why would I accept it.

The mattress bounces under the weight of what I’m assuming is Jason’s suitcase. A moment later, the zip on his suitcase sounds and Jason sits beside me, slinging an arm around my shoulders. I wish I could make your life better, easier, but I can’t, Josh. This is something only you can do. I have no experience with being blind.

Neither did I until six months ago. I clench my hands into fists and press them into my thighs. I don’t know how to live like this, Jason. How am I supposed to be me when I can’t see? Tears leak and slowly cascade down my cheeks. Tell me. Who am I if I can’t see?

Jason pulls me closer to him, wrapping me in a brotherly embrace. Oh, Josh. I wish I had the answers. Maybe you can let Aidan help while he’s here.

Aidan hates me. Why did you ask him to babysit, anyway?

He’s not babysitting you. He’ll be here to help you when needed. You’re an adult whether or not you can see, and I won’t treat you like a child. When you come to your senses, you’d hate me if I did.

Fuck. It’s like losing my sight made me an emotional mess. I need to drink a case of beer and get laid. Jason grunts out a laugh and, with a final squeeze, releases me from his hold.

Come on, Aidan will be here any minute. He grabs my hand and leads me back to the living room, straight to the couch. I’m learning to maneuver around the apartment on my own, but I’m constantly bumping into shit.

You need anything before he gets here?

I shake my head no and settle into the cushions. The TV clicks on and I hear pots and pans being knocked around as Jason puts on the annoying cooking show he likes to watch. Seriously, Jason. Just because I can’t see it doesn’t mean I want to hear the damn show.

Jason’s laughter is interrupted by knocking at the front door. I want to run and hide. Aidan has been Jason’s best friend since sixth grade. I had a crush on his dark emo-esque looks back then,
