    TESTIMONIES

Daily Showers devotional has been a blessing to me and my family. Just to mention a one, the prayer point at the end of each topic has been so helpful to my family. We are consistent with it, engaging with it twice a day and it has been working for us.

    Mrs Modupe Adeyosola (Lagos, Nigeria)

What a great blessing to have such a Devotional Manual at a time like this. Your messages through the devotional have been so timely and divinely programmed for this season. They have been very inspiring, encouraging and faith strengthening. I pray for more anointing on you sir. May the healer of all nations heal our land and deliver us from this evil virus.

    Sis. Bola (California, United States)

Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do! 1Thess 5:11Daily Showers devotional books has been in our KINGDOM RESOURCE CENTER for some time and by the leading of the Holy Spirit, Our Mummy in the Lord (Pastor Mrs. Titilayo Olabode) gave us an idea to adopt this devotional during our Bible Studies. Through using this book both on personal and group levels, we have been able to comfort, encourage and edify each other during and after the Bible studies and this has caused a Spiritual awakening in our lives. The write up from the Daily Showers devotional is so simplified, presented in an easily understandable way, powerfully impacting and embellished with truths from God's Word. As a family, we thank God for His faithfulness in our lives and all our family members. Our children and husbands have not only become closer to God but also loving the things of God. May the Almighty God Bless the writer Rev. Ayomide Abraham and all support team with more Wisdom, understanding, insights, and revelations from God. Also, as many readers out there, may their lives be changed unto Christ as the Lord continuously uphold every one of us in His truth and righteousness till the last day in Jesus Christ Name. Amen.

Deaconess Eva Okuraja (GKC, Dubai, UAE)

Daily showers delivered me from the bondage of unforgiving since 2015. Anybody being given daily showers and doesn’t read it is missing a lot.

Pst. Wale Adeosun (Christ Wonders Evangelical Ministry Ede, Osun State, Nigeria)

The Daily Showers Devotion has built my faith as I read it daily. It has a series of topics that touch on every aspect of life, on the basis of the word of God. This devotional is a reference point for teaching when we gather for home cell Bible Study. As I read its daily teaching, I am able to generate Prayer points for my spiritual growth, concerning the lesson that I have learnt. The daily reading along with the Today’s Memory Verse, has been well elaborated through the daily devotion, providing a deep revelation of the word of God. Furthermore, I have been able to enlighten myself with the knowledge of God through the Daily Showers’ topics, for example; in October 2019, the Daily Shower discussed about Fear in various features; picking the topic titled The Fear of Failure (29th October 2019); I derived a point that, without the fear of God, you have the fear of failure. Another one is Overcome by the Blood (17th January 2020); it says ‘The blood marks the line which Satan cannot cross in the matters of spiritual warfare’, this taught me how powerful the blood of Jesus is upon our life when we plead. It has brought increase in my courage level, I do not fear evil of any form. The devotional is a guide to live everyday life as a believer. I learnt how to live and conduct my life based on what I read from the topics and daily Bible reading. The Daily Shower acts as a centralised point for my spiritual exercise daily in terms of memorizing the Today’s Memory Verses available, in addition to the Bible reading and Prayer points.

    Deaconess Lila (GKC, Dubai, UAE)

Daily showers has been a part and parcel of my life. Whenever I’m being asked to preach by my Pastor, my sermon will not be completed until I make reference to Daily Showers. It has been a great resource of knowledge for me and all other members of my parish.

Dcn. Oludare Odetunde (RCCG Fountain of God Parish Lagos, Nigeria)

Praise be to Jehovah our father; we surely thank God for the Daily Showers devotional. It has been of immense help to us, in specifics: The powerful Prayer points, Topical Bible Study topics with rich biblical references have been vital in our spiritual life and always enlightens our spirits as we pray daily as a family.

Mr. & Mrs. Wanyoike (GKC, Dubai, UAE)

The creativity my wife (Mrs. Dorcas) deploys in sharing the messages in the Daily Showers devotional has been of tremendous effect. She screenshots daily readings and post in her WhatsApp Status as part of evangelizing. This becomes accessible to people, even her non- Christians co-workers read it daily. My prayer for the writer Rev. Ayomide Abraham is in line with Isaiah 58:11, that God will continually guide and satisfy his ministry in Jesus name.

Mrs Sola Oladapo Taiwo (Foursquare Gospel Church, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria)

My personal testimony is that I joined GKC through the Daily Showers devotional. While I was looking for someone, I could buy it from, I found the contact of our Pastor and his wife at the back of an old edition and that is what led my family to GKC.

    Member (GKC, Dubai, UAE)

Daily Showers is a devotional that preaches the efficacy of the word with love. I pray the source of Rev Ayomide Abraham’s inspiration will never go dry.

    Mrs Olamide Olaosebikan (Lagos, Nigeria)

Well, the testimony I have is much older than 2021. It happened in 2012, based on my usage of the devotional I gave it as a gift to friend of mine who was unsaved as at that time and after a while of using the devotional, he got born again by reading the Daily Showers devotional. Praise be to God.

    Member (GKC, Dubai, UAE)

Reading Daily Showers on daily basis has helped me in increasing and improving my faith in God through Jesus Christ in good and challenging situations. Few years ago when I was broke and one bill needed to be paid, check didn't arrive from work on time was about to worry but rested and put my faith in God that He never fails and check came almost the last day then I was a able to mail it on Friday and got to Indianapolis, Indiana, USA the next day Saturday that was supposed to take 3-4 days. To the glory of God my account was credited that Saturday so bill not late.

    Bro Saga (Indiana, United States)

The Daily Showers is timely and loaded. I almost gave up because of challenges here and there but with the Daily Showers every morning and prayers, God has been faithful. It is perfect work of Holy Spirit through the Author. I am indeed blessed. I pray his anointing will not run dry, more grace for him, God will give Daddy long life in Jesus' name.

Pastor Mrs. Bolaji Davies, Foursquare Church, Oyo State, Nigeria

Through Daily Showers, I have been able to get daily inspiration and prophetic direction. It is my daily capsule and booster.

    Caroline Famodimu, South Africa

We thank God for our Daily Shower. It is inspiring, faith building, with Bible and real-life scenarios, we were able to follow through with the topical messages. It is a Bible study on its own. It cuts across every aspect of Christian living. We pray that God will continue to increase His anointing on Pastor Ayomide Abraham.

    THE BLESSINGS OF REDEMPTION

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR. Genesis 1-3, Mat.1.

    TODAY’S BIBLE PASSAGE: Ephesian 1:3-23.

    Today’s Memory Verse: Ephesian 1:18

"The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what the hope of his calling is, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints,"

Our Lord Jesus has obtained the benefits of redemption for us through His blood that was shed on the cross. This shall be our focus all through this year as I pray that whatever is still missing in your life out of the blessings of grace which Jesus Christ facilitated on the cross shall be fully made manifest in the course of this New Year in Jesus name. This year shall be the beginning of years for you and your family in Jesus name.

But I must welcome all of us who have survived Covid'19 into this New Year. As at the day of writing this piece (30 September 2020), the death from the virus had climbed beyond one million worldwide. In the United States alone, 205,000 plus had died and the model has predicted a rise to over 400 thousand for U.S in January 2021. Africa had seen a decline, especially in Nigeria where the curve had flattened relatively in the past one month. I sincerely pray to God that by the time this devotional becomes effective by date, the pandemic would have become a thing of the past worldwide in Jesus name. Amen.

Every believer is saved to experience the abundance of God in diverse areas of life on the earth before our ultimate departure to heaven. We are saved to enjoy the dominion which Adam lost to sin in the garden. Isaiah foretold this restoration in Isaiah 51 verse 3 when he wrote For the Lord will comfort Zion, He will comfort all her waste places; He will make her wilderness like Eden, and her desert like the garden of the LORD; Joy and gladness will be found in it, Thanksgiving and the voice of melody. The consideration of the abundance from the cross will engage our focus for the next few days as we begin to explore the redemption package. No one can take advantage of what he does not know. My prayer is that through knowledge, you shall unlock and possess your inheritance among the saints as apostle Paul had prayed in Jesus name. Rejoice in the Lord.

    PRAYER POINTS

Thank you, Jesus, for your sacrifice on the cross

I shall not miss my inheritance among the saints in Jesus name.

    ABUNDANT PARDON

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR. Genesis 4-6, Mathew 2.

    TODAY’S BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 28:10-22.

    Today’s Memory Verse: Isaiah 55:7

"Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon."

Every believer is a receiver of pardon for sin. Our Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins on the cross so that we can obtain pardon upon repentance. However, pardon does not come alone. It comes with other components as well. For example, restoration of fatherhood of God and covenant relationship are in the package. Joy of salvation which the Bible calls the everlasting joy is also there (Isaiah 61:7). Whenever a sinner becomes a saint because his or her sin is forgiven, he receives abundant pardon. Jacob is our case study on the subject of abundant pardon. He was a beneficiary of God's covenant with Abraham by birth. It appears he went about getting for himself through the flesh what heaven would have commanded upon him through divine connectivity. But the gracious God gave him a second chance at Bethel where he met God in his first divine encounter. (Genesis 28:11-15). In the night God gave abundant pardon to Jacob in the following terms. One, Divine visitation. (v.12). Jacob had the privilege of God visiting him in spite of his shortcomings. Two, Divine annunciation. (v.13). God announced to Jacob his covenant status by linking him to the Abrahamic root of the covenant. Three, Divine allocation. (v.13). God allotted the land of Bethel to him and his descendants. Four, Divine multiplication. (v.14). God promised to multiply his descendants. Five, Divine partnership. (v.15). God told Jacob that he was with him. Six, Divine security (v.15). God assured Jacob of safety wherever he would be. Seven, Divine commitment (v.15).

The Almighty God has given us all that pertains to life and godliness through our Lord Jesus Christ. Pardon for sin is the gateway to all other blessings which flow from the cross. Once your sins are forgiven you are automatically credited with the other blessings that accompany pardon as it were. The choice to obtain pardon for sin and become the God's beloved and a planting of the Lord on the earth is yours to make. If you have not made the choice, you can do so today. Rejoice in the Lord.

    PRAYER POINTS

Thank You Jesus for the abundant pardon from the cross.

I rejoice for the blood of Jesus has obtained pardon for my sin.

    BE BOLD, SEEK PARDON

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR. Genesis 7-9, Matthew 3.

    TODAY’S BIBLE PASSAGE: Luke 15:11-32.

    Today’s Memory Verse: Luke 15:7

"And when he came to himself, he said, how many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger!"

Our ever-compassionate God is previous in all His acts. In other words, He designed certain things for purposes which are yet to exist so that when the anticipated occurrences happen, we can take advantage of what He already did. He knew that man would sin, then He sent His only Son to die and to offer His life as propitiation for our sin. Therefore, His pardon waits for the repentance of the sinner who comes to himself like the prodigal son.

Many people wrestle with the idea that God can forgive any sin including those ones they consider so grievous. That is why God is God. He says in Isaiah 1:18 Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow…. Forgiveness is in God's nature, and nothing can take it away. But he that would receive forgiveness must find boldness to return to God to ask to be forgiven. That is a vital lesson from the prodigal son. He was bold. Maybe you are a sinner out there. Be bold to return to God as His creature and repent of your sin. God has made provision for forgiveness because He knows there will be offences. He shows mercy because He does not want the work of His hands to be destroyed in hell.

Each time I read through the story of Adam's transgression in Genesis chapter 3, I always wonder why Adam and Eve merely gave excuses and set up alibi instead of falling to the ground to ask to be forgiven. A West African adage says the accused who admits his guilt will not go through a prolonged trial. Such an early admission could mitigate his punishment or secure an outright pardon for him. What if you are already a child of God? Then your case falls squarely within the scenario of the prodigal son in this passage. You don't lose sonship when you sin, you lose it if you become too big or too pompous to weep for repentance. You, and not God determine how far your sonship will last (2 Chronicles 15:2 and James 4:8). Be bold to return. Rejoice in the Lord.

    PRAYER POINTS

Thank You Father for Your provision for forgiveness.

I shall not be timid to go back to my father if I err.

    PARDON REQUIRES HUMILITY

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR. Genesis 10-12, Matthew 4.

    TODAY’S BIBLE PASSAGE: Luke 23:39-43.

    Today’s Memory Verse: James 4:6

"But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble."

We have made the point that pardon for sin is the gateway to eternal life. But pardon for sin is not automatic. There are protocols to observe to obtain pardon. That is why we talk of the posture of the one who seeks pardon. I have seen a person who missed official pardon because he was casual, flippant and puffed up. Pardon is often sought from a person who is superior or who is in a higher authority to decide or influence certain area(s) of our lives. Many years ago, a football player by the name Rooney was booked for a foul tackle on the field and given a yellow (warning) card by the match Referee. Instead of the striker to go away gently he turned to the Referee and jeered at him. The match official was offended and gave him a red card. Attitude is everything.

Humility is a ground- gainer for he who bows low. We can recall the case of the Syro-Phoenician woman who engaged the attention of Jesus in Matthew 15:21-28. She started by arguing with Jesus, but grace inspired her to worship Jesus in an attitude of humility. On that occasion the woman won heaven's attention for the Gentiles before Jesus even went to the cross. Grace gave her what law disqualified her for because of humility. That is an interpretation of our Today’s Memory Verse for today.

The elders say that the way up is to go down. One of the two thieves who were justly convicted and punished for their crimes was too proud to recognize and honour Jesus. But the second thief did so and went ahead to ask Jesus to remember him in heaven. But since forgiveness will be too late after death, Jesus did it right there and then. Humility was the difference between their respective eternal destinations.

It has been said that he who is too big to ask for forgiveness will be too big to be forgiven. Our Lord Jesus taught us very early in His earthly ministry to be humble when He submitted Himself to the baptism of sinners under John the Baptist. Be humble. Don't miss pardon due to pride. Rejoice in the Lord.

    PRAYER POINTS

Thank You Jesus for showing us the example of humility.

I shall not be a loser through pride in Jesus name.

    PARDON THROUGH MERCY

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR. Genesis 13-15, Matthew 5:1-26.

    TODAY’S BIBLE PASSAGE: Romans 9:14-24.

    Today’s Memory Verse: Colossian 1:20

"And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven."

Pardon is from the womb of mercy and mercy is the prerogative of the Almighty God. When God decides to show mercy to a person nobody can query Him. It is one of those acts of God which the Bible covers in Ecclesiastes 8:4. Psalm 115:3 also says that our God is in heaven, and He has done that which He pleases.

For example, we saw in yesterday's sermon how our Lord Jesus Christ forgave one of the thieves who were nailed to the cross along with Him. When a person receives mercy, God can set aside an earthly judgment for his sake. For example, it is a truth of law that Moses was awaiting trial in Egypt for the murder of an Egyptian. But when through the mercy of God Moses was chosen as an instrument for the deliverance of Israel from the Egyptian slavery, by divine prerogative no one asked Moses for the crime of killing that Egyptian.

But acquittal for a crime for which a man is charged is not the same as being forgiven by God especially if the criminal escapes justice through technicalities. Innocence is not the same as sinlessness. In all cases it is better to press for mercy from God because only those who receive mercy from God can make it to heaven.

In our Bible passage, God decided to turn to the Gentiles when the Israelites took the God of their fathers for granted and sinned against Him. They forgot that He chose Israel as a people and that it was not Israel that chose Him. And when God decided to show compassion to Nineveh the jealousy of His servant prophet Jonah did not stop God's mercy from bringing the revival to that city. God ignored the protest of Jonah and pardoned the people of Nineveh because He had purposed to show them mercy.

It is highly comforting that the exercise of God's discretion to show us mercy is not subject to any man's opinion, the affluence and influence of such a person notwithstanding. Do you need pardon today? Ask for God's mercy. Rejoice in the Lord.

    PRAYER POINTS

Father, please remember me in your mercy today.

    Father, please pardon sinners today.

    WHEN MERCY LOCATES YOU

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR. Genesis 16-17, Matthew 5:27-48.

    TODAY’S BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 12:1-9.

    Today’s Memory Verse: 1 Chronicles 16:34

"O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good; for his mercy endureth forever."

When God's mercy locates a man, it leaves him wondering at himself even as other people are also wondering at him. That is the case of Abraham who God decided to single out of his family and bring out of idolatry and make him a father of the Hebrews and our father of faith. Abraham was not better than anyone in his family, but God's mercy just located and lifted him from the darkness of idolatry into the light of God's righteousness. Before Abraham could define and understand righteousness which is the foremost qualification for obtaining the blessing from God, God Himself credited father Abraham with righteousness because he obeyed Him (Genesis 15:6). Abraham enjoyed the grace of God which qualifies the unqualified. When Abraham obeyed God's instruction to sacrifice his son Isaac, God also ascribed the fear of God to Abraham (Genesis 22:12).

A man who obtains God's mercy has God as his defender and battle fighter. In Genesis 14, Abraham went to war to rescue Lot and other captives which the invaders carried away. Abraham won and came back with the spoil of war. It is difficult to fight and win against the man who enjoys God's mercy. In Genesis chapter 20, King Abimelech saw Sarah, the very beautiful wife of Abraham whose charm and radiance did not diminish by age. Having heard Abraham introduce Sarah as his sister the king saw another opportunity to marry a new wife. The king paid dearly for his trespass which he committed in ignorance. In verse 14 the king had to restore Sarah to Abraham at a great cost. Meanwhile Abraham did not ask king Abimelech for anything. God also left the restoration of fertility and fruitfulness within the king's domain to the prayer of Abraham, the man who was swimming in God's mercy.

Our journey to breakthrough, success, healing, and deliverance can be faster if only we can turn to God and ask for mercy rather than plead our efforts or blame people or institutions for where we are. The God of Abraham is the God of mercy and I pray that God's mercy shall speak in your life more than ever before in this New Year. Amen. Rejoice in the Lord.

Father, please have mercy on me.

Father, please fight for me by your mercy.

    WONDERS OF HIS MERCY

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR. Genesis 18-19, Matthew 6:1-18.

    TODAY’S BIBLE PASSAGE: Ephesian 2:1-22.

    Today’s Memory Verse: Ephesian 2:13

"But now in Christ Jesus, ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ"

We shall take a few days to consider the wonders of God's mercy with a view to deepen our sense of gratitude for all that Jesus Christ our Saviour did for us on the cross at Calvary. We shall consider RECONCILIATION today.

In Roman 3:23, Paul made it clear to us that every person born as a seed from Adam had sinned (in Adam) and fell short of the glory of God. The sin of Adam corrupted all of us before we were born and as a result man became alienated from the holy God. In verse 12 of our Bible passage Paul said we became aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world. Sin always brings separation between God and man because God's eyes are too pure to behold iniquity. A sinner is without hope, and he is spiritually distanced from God until he or she repents of sin. Our Lord Jesus went to the cross to shed His blood to cleanse man from sin and to reconcile him back to God.

In verse 15 -16, Paul said that Jesus Christ abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity.

We were born with the dual capacity for good and evil. When we are saved, we receive divine capacity to become united to God in one spiritual nature which is now pleasing unto God. This is the holy and righteous nature which is compatible with God's holy nature. It is the foundation for an enduring relationship between God and the redeemed soul. Believers are eternally appreciative of the once and for all sacrifice of Jesus on the cross at Calvary. But for His death on the cross our soul would have been lost forever. Jesus died to demonstrate God's mercy to reconcile the lost man to Himself. Rejoice in the Lord.

    PRAYER POINTS

Thank You Jesus for Your sacrifice on the cross.

I am reconciled to the holy God through the cross, hallelujah.

    DIVINE PROMOTION

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR. Genesis 20-22, Matthew 6:19-34.

    TODAY’S BIBLE PASSAGE: Psalm 8:1-9.

    Today’s Memory Verse: Psalm 18:43

"Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the heathen:a people whom I have not known shall serve me."

The mercy of the Lord has lifted the saved soul from the dungeon of the condemned sinners to the assembly of beloved saints and pushed him out from the obscurity of darkness into the shining light of His kingdom. In a transaction so dramatic and beyond what the believer can easily fathom, the loving God has facilitated our promotion from the class of the dominated to kingdom citizens who walk in dominion. The redeemed of the Lord has been exalted to the position of people who have a voice to which the earth must respond whenever it sounds. We are commanders in the realm of the spirit because God, our Redeemer has empowered our words and turned them to laws which those who are subject to us must obey. These are some of the explanations of the Today’s Memory Verse.

God's mercy is the game changer for us. According to Isaiah 14:2, power has changed hands in our favour so that we who were former captives of the enemy and his forces have become their captors. The masters who we used to serve when we lived in sin must now serve us. Our case is like the case of Paul and Silas who came into the prison and were subjected to the authority of the prison controller who became their nurse and servant overnight when God visited the prison with an overnight earthquake.

The redeemed humanity is not subservient or inferior to the angels. In our Bible passage, a version refers to the Elohim instead of angels. Redemption is the greatest elevation a mortal man can experience. Angels wonder at the redeemed humanity, in awe of what redemption has made of us. No wonder the angel who was encountered by John the beloved when he was receiving the revelation from Jesus refused to be worshipped by John. Through salvation we share divine nature, and we have the spiritual capacity to also operate in the supernatural. We have been exalted in the order of Psalm 45:7 above our natural counterparts. Our exaltation is real and established in heaven. It is the pure work of grace which was facilitated by our loving Saviour. Rejoice in the Lord.

    PRAYER POINTS

I rejoice in the Lord for lifting me out of sin and shame.

I am the head of the heathen; I shall be served by the heathen.

    MERCY IS SOVEREIGN

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR. Genesis 23-24, Matthew 7.

    TODAY’S BIBLE PASSAGE: Romans 9:9-24.

    Today’s Memory Verse: Romans 9:23

"And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,"

Mercy works according to the sovereignty of God. The story of Jacob which we have considered on the issue of pardon is very explanatory for the understanding of the nature of God's mercy that we are considering today. God has absolute, unfettered and incontestable power and authority to do whatever He wants with all His creation. None of us could ever rise beyond where God would permit. We cannot live a minute longer than the time He has apportioned to us. Our Bible passage says that we cannot resist His will (verse 19), neither can we query how He permitted us to be formed. For example, we read about the man who was blind from his mother's womb (John 9:1). The disciples wanted to know whose sin was responsible for the man's blindness, but Jesus answered and said, Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but that the works of God should be revealed in Him (verse 3). That is divine sovereignty. Again, in verse 21 of our Bible passage Paul alluded to this truth when he made the analogy of the potter's power over the clay.

It is within God's sovereign choice to make a man or a woman a vessel of mercy and no one can query Him. God chose to make Jacob a vessel of mercy right from their mother's womb. (See verse 12 to 13). That was God's election. When Jacob became rascally and carnal, mercy was what rescued him. When Esau threatened to kill him, it was not possible because no one can kill whom God's mercy preserves. Even after he had suffered in the hands of Laban, mercy prevailed to make Jacob to laugh last. Jacob was the first employee on the earth who became richer than his employer without engaging in private practice.

In our contemporary world we have read stories of people who made it against all odds such as orphans who had no parents to give them education and support and who rose through the ashes of poverty. They were vessels of mercy. Mercy has a way of opening doors which our best efforts cannot open. Mercy opened the door of salvation to all of us who are saved. Rejoice in the Lord.

    PRAYER POINTS

Thank You Jesus for choosing me as a vessel of mercy.

I shall not take the mercy of God for granted in Jesus name.

    MERCY SELECTS

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR. Genesis 25-26, Matthew 8:1-17.

    TODAY’S BIBLE PASSAGE: Luke 4:24-27.

    Today’s Memory Verse: Luke 4:26

"But unto none of them was Elias sent, save unto Sarepta, a city of Sidon, unto a woman that was a widow."

Divine mercy selects who to favour and offers no apology for doing so. We saw the case of Jacob yesterday, a man who was marked for mercy even before he was born. Mercy selected him for God's love while Esau was not so favoured. And until Esau was able to push the barriers of life and do well for himself, things did not go well for him, especially as between himself and Jacob. One could conclude that Jacob always got the better of Esau especially on the subject of their birth-right and the heritage from Isaac their father.

In the Bible passage for today, our Lord Jesus explains to us how mercy works without directly talking on it. During the three and half years of drought in Israel, following Elijah's pronouncement which stopped rain according to 1 Kings 17:1, many people became victims of ravaging famine and acute shortage of food. Elijah, the prophet who brought the hardship on the nation found supernatural succour from ravens which brought him bread and meat twice daily 'from the Lord's kitchen' at Brook Cherith where the Lord had told him to hide while the brook provided him water. When the brook dried up, God directed His servant to the widow whom our Lord Jesus referred to in today's Bible passage, for succour. Apparently, there were many widows in the land at that time who would have loved to benefit from the multiplication anointing that was upon Elijah, but the mercy of God selected the widow of Zarephath in the region of Sidon. The anointing multiplied her supply of flour and oil until the end of the famine thereby ensuring the survival of the woman and her son.

In a similar scenario, the mercy of the Lord selected Naaman the Syrian army general to receive healing for his leprosy under the ministry of Prophet Elisha whereas many lepers were right there in Israel who did not receive healing under Elisha's ministry.

Although the people who heard the words of Jesus Christ in this passage were offended, but that does not change the truth that mercy chooses its own beneficiaries. Rejoice in the Lord.

    THE PRECEDING MERCY

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR. Genesis 27-28, Matthew 8:18-34.

    TODAY’S BIBLE PASSAGE: Exodus 2:1-10.

    Today’s Memory Verse: Hebrews 11:23

"By faith Moses, when he was born, was hid three months of his parents, because they saw he was a proper child; and they were not afraid of the king's commandment."

Another wonder of mercy is that it could precede the beneficiary and work for him ever before the beneficiary can recognize it. Mercy began to work for Moses as a baby. In a very strange way, mercy kept Moses away from the hatchet men of Pharaoh when other Hebrew children were being killed. Our Today’s Memory Verse says in the KJV that he was preserved by his parents because he was a special child. It was God's mercy that made Moses special.

When mercy speaks for a person even his enemies would serve him. Pharaoh made a decree that all male Hebrew children should be killed at birth. But it was Pharaoh's daughter who was compelled by mercy to have pity on Moses as she picked him up as an adopted son and placed the mother of Moses on wages to breastfeed her own son. She violated the decree of Pharaoh without repercussions. It did not stop there, for Moses lived in the palace and enjoyed Pharaoh's scholarship. He became learned in the traditions and culture of Egypt.

Mercy also preceded Moses when he killed an Egyptian in defence of a fellow Hebrew as a result of which he fled Egypt for the fear of facing the wrath of the law for murder. It is the mercy of God that moved God to offer His only begotten Son to die for our sin so we could escape the deserved punishment for sin. Moses was not arrested for murder when he returned to Egypt to deliver the Israelites out of the Egyptian slavery. Why? The mercy of the Lord overrode the charge. Otherwise, Moses could have been charged to court for the offence because time does not run against crime.

We need the preceding mercy of the Lord in all our situations. It goes ahead of us to remove obstacles and roadblocks which could have hindered our advancement in the journey of destiny. It was the preceding mercy that placed Esther in the palace before the plot of Haman against the Jews in Shushan. The plans were thwarted by the intervention of Queen Esther. Rejoice in the Lord.

    PRAYER POINTS

Father, please send Your preceding mercy ahead of me everywhere I go.

I shall overcome obstacles through God's preceding mercy in Jesus name.

    ACCOMPANYING MERCY

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR. Genesis 29-30, Matthew 9:1-17.

    TODAY’S BIBLE PASSAGE: Genesis 39:1-21.

    Today’s Memory Verse: Genesis 39:21

"But the Lord was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison."

Accompanying mercy of God is the heritage of everyone in whom God delights. This expression of mercy follows you and shows up at every stage of your life, especially at intersections where the enemy seems to be having an upper hand. (Psalm 18:17). Joseph enjoyed this kind of mercy, and it was the conquering factor in battles from his household enemies and the adversaries from outside.

The troubles of Joseph started when he told the dream of his greatness to his brothers who became jealous and angry that he would someday rule over them. They embarked on an evil mission to truncate his vision of the future and frustrate his dream. But the mercy of the Lord was with Joseph. From his desert experience down to the house of Potiphar, God's mercy stood for Joseph. How would one young teenager contend in a wrestling match with ten other boys who are older than him? At a time, they considered murdering him but for the intervention of Judah who became a little more sensible and sympathetic. (Gen.37:26). When they took Joseph's tunic of many colours from him, mercy preserved the beauty of his glory. When they threw him into the pit, mercy rose for him and prevented his glory from being buried. And when they sold him into slavery, mercy ensured that his glory was not merchandised. Then in Potiphar's house he was jailed but mercy ensured that his glory could not be imprisoned.

At every juncture Joseph found the accompanying mercy of God speaking for him. When mercy is working in your life it brings you comfort even in the toughest and harshest of circumstances. Even in the prison mercy showed up again to promote Joseph. In Joseph's life mercy was turning every adversity to advancement. Indeed, he told his brothers in Genesis 45:5-8 that God used their wicked acts towards him to accomplish providential benefits and to preserve a posterity.

Mercy eventually sat Joseph on his throne and made his star to shine, especially in a strange land. When mercy accompanies you, the enemies cannot write the last chapter of your life. Rejoice in the Lord.
