Higher the Risk Greater the Success - Tarun Engineer
Risk Vs Success: An Introduction
What can risk taking ability
do for you?
I can recall an incident which occurred last year. The Chief Minister of the State of Jharkhand, accompanied by his wife and a legislator was travelling to Kharsava by helicopter. During the flight, the pilot detected a fault in the engine and planned an emergency landing. When the pilot tried to land at the runway at Ranchi airport, the pilot noticed to his horror that the helicopter was precariously tilting to the right, and the propeller of the helicopter could hit the tarmac with disastrous results. It could even cause the machine to go up in flames, killing all on board.
But to everybody’s fortune, pilot’s good sense and presence of mind prevailed, and he immediately took off the helicopter and continued flying until he could establish contact with the air-traffic controller. The pilot informed them that his aircraft had developed a serious mechanical fault and one of its wheels had also bent, and requested them to prepare for an emergency landing. The traffic controller then enquired how much fuel was remaining in the aircraft. On knowing that the fuel was sufficient for the aircraft to keep flying for 15-20 minutes, the traffic controller advised the pilot to keep hovering over the airport till the fuel was exhausted. Without fuel, the helicopter would certainly crash, but will not catch fire.
The pilot followed these instructions, and allowed the helicopter to drop from a height of 25 feet. Of course the people in the aircraft got hurt, but their lives were saved. This incident gave me a formula the greater the risk the greater is the success
.
Such risky incidents frequently occur in our daily life, whether be it in business, in jobs that we perform, or in the family. When we begin to take risks like the pilot did, we are able to elevate our lives on to a higher level of achievements.
Basic principles and concepts included in this book will inspire you and boost your morale. You will begin to earn more from your business, exhibit your abilities and talents better in a job, in sports, or in politics. You will also win the heart of your spouse, and your loved ones.
Those who have acquired the skill of taking risks have always been successful. So get ready to enter a world where wealth and fame are waiting for you.
Why must you read this book?
In this world, a very small fraction of people are born in wealthy families, whereas the majority belongs to ordinary class. But it is seen that those people who have seen adversity, rise in life the most because they develop a tremendous capacity to think, read and take risks.
A research conducted in America last year revealed that reading can change the shape of the mind. It introduces new dimensions in problem solving methods and thereby enhances your risk taking capacity.
This, therefore, is one of the reasons why one must read this book. Maybe someday, you will become the richest man on Earth, or maybe you will lead your country, perhaps become a popular Bollywood star, or a cricketer known for the highest score.
A good book holds more wealth within itself than any bank account. A right book which is read at the opportune time has the power to transform your life. This has been claimed by people who owe their success in life to books which they have read.
Mr. Fazal Ahmed from Patna belonged to a middle class family. He is now Commissioner of Income Tax in Jharkhand and owes his success to a book ‘THINK BIG BECOME BIG’.
Mr. Amit Pandey from Gorakhpur is the highest paid writer in Mumbai, and is a proud recipient of many Bollywood screenplay film awards. He has reached these heights after reading ‘REALISE YOUR DREAMS BY MAKING FIRM RESOLUTIONS.’
Mr. Satish Kashyap, owner of Mandrake Group of Industries, and founder of Wendy’s Restaurants, has an annual turnover of Rs 500 crores. He owes his success to the book titled ‘DO YOU WANT TO BECOME RICH?’
Virendra Bhati who successfully contested the Legislative Assembly elections in UP, was the first person from his family to fight elections. He gives the credit of his success to the book ‘SECRETS OF SUCCESS’.
Imran Kaifi, who cleared IPS examination last year and is undergoing training at Dehradun, was never a bright student. He owes his success to ‘SUCCESS IS HIDDEN IN THOUGHTS’.
Joginder Pal Singh hails from a poor family, but now he commands the Armed forces posted at Kargil in Jammu & Kashmir. The book ‘12 HABITS OF EFFECTIVE PEOPLE & THE SECRETS OF THEIR SUCCESS’ changed his life.
Books tell us that the meaning of wealth is not just about earning money, but receiving and giving love, being healthy, physically fit and mentally satisfied.
The great Jain Saint GUPTI SAGARJI has very aptly said, Your luck shines not by chance but by your own choice, so also your life is transformed only after reading good books.
But what change will this book bring about in your life will be known to you only after you have read the first 50 pages. As also is the saying that, A person who can read can also develop an inclination to think and understand.
The prayer to take risks
God! How can I take risks and perform great tasks,
Bless me, so that I may learn to tread on fire.
For years I have been wandering and feeling desperate each night
Ignite in me a ray of hope, and bless my life.
God! How can I take risks and perform great tasks,
Bless me, so that I may learn to tread on fire.
I lead a dreary life, and laugh only in my dreams,
Create in me the thirst for wealth, so that I may also earn respect.
God! How can I take risks and perform great tasks,
Bless me, so that I may learn to tread on fire.
I feel restless in the light, and darkness scares me,
Be benevolent and give me the opportunity to advance in life.
God! How can I take risks and perform great tasks,
Bless me, so that I may learn to tread on fire.
I am cursing my destiny, coping with sorrows and grief in this world,
Fulfill my earnest desire, and arrange my trip to paradise.
God! How can I take risks and perform great tasks,
Bless me, so that I may learn to tread on fire.
This prayer can become a medium to achieve wealth, fame and power. Life is a beautiful poem, a rhapsody which can be hummed. When life moves smoothly, it is enjoyable. But when it comes to a standstill, it becomes disastrous. Therefore, it is essential to have faith in somethings, and prayer provides the strength to maintain faith.
The world over, people following different religions pray, because prayer is the oldest and simplest representation of religion. Only the methods of prayer differ in the different holy scriptures. A Hindu reads the Geeta, Muslims recite the Quran, Buddhists believe in Dhammpad, the Sikhs have faith in the Guru Granth Sahib and Christians read the Bible.
It is believed that when all efforts fail, then only prayers work, because praying is an act of purity and virtuousness. Prayers allow us to view life from various angles which enables us to lead a better life.
Therefore you must pray before you start on a new venture. Pray when you are in difficulty and also when you wish to achieve great success.
Earning money after investing money is not business.
No dreams are fulfilled without taking risks.
If an idea is new then luck also shines.
Wealth is not one man’s domain.

Enthusiasm gives you the confidence to take risks
When Vidya Balan, the famous Bollywood actress was being conferred the National award for her acting in ‘Dirty Picture’, I asked her how she could enact her role in the film so well. It was sheer enthusiasm,
she said. Had it not been for this she would not have the desire to work so hard and to take the risk of doing the offbeat role.
This shows that when the fire is kindled within, you begin to get fine results. Betty Freedom, the author of The Feminine Mystic
writes that a good heroine is one who lends life to her role. On screen, her fervor and passionate love for the hero makes the audience believe it to be real. It is mentioned in our scriptures that zeal arises from creativity which also inspires man to take risks. But I believe that creativity leads to enthusiasm, which in turn motivates people to get astonishing results.
In the book ‘Alchemist’ by the Brazillian author Paulo Coelho, the pivotal character is a shepherd who wanders behind his flock of sheep from morning to evening with a plethora of thoughts and ideas streaming into his mind. Then a miracle happens and he is successful in achieving everything that he thinks over day and night. Enthusiasm arises from two things – the first is the goal that stirs a storm within you, and the second is a definite plan to materialize the goal.
So whatever you do, do it with full vigour, because you have been created by God to lead an amazing life and achieve all that you desire, to develop and maintain cordial relations with family and friends, to earn riches and to lead a comfortable and happy life. God has created you in such a manner that you can achieve whatever you desire earnestly.
If you ardently wish to have a holiday then God has created you for it. If you are in love with someone then God has designed you for that. If you wish to start a business then you have also been made to do that. If you harbour a strong desire to become a musician or a scientist or an industrialist or an inventor, an artist, or even an IAS, IPS officer, then God has even granted you these abilities. The only condition is that you should be filled with enthusiasm and fervor as you wake up every morning, and then within the next five minutes your mind will be conditioned and charged for the whole day to achieve your wish. Amazing things will happen to you, your life will be filled with happiness, and you will realize that you have been gifted with an invaluable life.
When I met Dhirubhai Ambani, the founder of Reliance Industries, I asked him how did he acquire so much wealth at this ripe age when most people even stop thinking of worldly things. Dhirubhai replied that a person can achieve success irrespective of his age if he has the enthusiasm to perform.
Enthusiasm is like fire, and in controlled measures it is the magical formula to achieve success in all spheres of life. If you are a salesman, promoting sales of a product which is in demand and has a potential market, then you may have a bright career. But you must have faith in yourself, and conviction in the product that you are promoting. When you believe that you can do something, then you are also prepared to take risks.
The word enthusiasm has been derived from a Greek word ‘entheos’ which means that God is within you and is filled with love. So enthusiasm can miraculously solve all problems and further provide you with courage, faith, intelligence, and guidance in planning your strategies.
You may have read the story of a boy who was a good athlete and had won many competitions. Filled with vanity in his ability, he once openly challenged people to come and defeat him in a race. A competition was arranged and many sprinters came. A huge crowd had collected to see the race. In the audience, there also stood a saint.
In the first challenge round the boy had to run against two swift athletes. Initially, the two runners were in the lead, but in the last lap of the race the boy sped and won. People cheered and clapped for him. The boy proudly looked around for any other contestant who could meet his challenge. Two more runners came up, but they also tasted defeat. As the crowd cheered, the boy stood with his head held high, teeming with pride and vainglory on his victory.
Then the saint got up and beckoned a deaf, and another dumb person to compete with the boy. The crowd was surprised and so was the boy, finding it hard to imagine what the saint was trying to do with two handicapped people, when the more talented sprinters had failed. But, as the race came to an end, the one deaf and other dumb athlete crossed the victory line well ahead of the boy. They won because they had taken the risk to defeat the boy. So, beware of over enthusiasm and over confidence because pride always goes before a fall.
There is a description of three types of ‘powers’ in the ‘Gita’, categorized as A, B & C.
A exhorts one to always keep trying;
B refers to be positive always;
C advises one to keep control over one’s enthusiasm.
If you follow these principles, you will feel a surge of energy within you. There is a saying ‘first deserve, then desire’. So people who wish to succeed in life must follow this. The world is full of problems and miseries and would continue to be so. Each person has to lead a life of struggle and also take risks. It is said in the Bible, ‘Man is born to face difficulties, but in every problem there also exists a solution.’
In the book How I raised myself from failure to success in selling
, Betgar has mentioned that every person is enthusiastic at some point of his life. Whereas, one person may be enthusiastic for only thirty minutes, another person may continue to be in this condition for thirty days. But it is only the person who maintains this zeal for thirty years becomes successful.
My father always laid stress on sleeping early and waking up early, eating in moderation, working hard, helping others, avoiding fantasy, paying attention to work and being enthusiastic. Because, if you live in a world of fantasies, you cannot face the reality of life. The judges of the favourite TV talent show, ‘the X-Factor’, try to evaluate which competitor has that ineffable zing factor that sets him or her apart from all others. Because when God gives us life, He also gifts us some special attributes which are beneficial to us and make us stand out from others. Each one of us has been endowed with an x-factor, it all depends how and when we realize our hidden talent. The great thinker Osho said that it is not
