About this ebook
Do you view disruption as a beneficial, positive part of life?
When our lives are disrupted, they can't continue in the usual way. It is all too easy to continue living in this world by merely keeping in step with the culture. Living a status quo life just like everyone else. Everywhere we turn we hear messages telling us to exalt ourselves, follow our hearts, and worship the idols of money and sex, or whatever else we think will make us "happy." It is counterintuitive to die to ourselves, to take up our crosses, and to renounce our wills and sinful desires in favor of God's will.
Dr. Scott Hamilton is a prominent psychologist and a coach, teacher, husband, father, and grandfather. From his wealth of clinical, ministerial, and family experience comes disruptive insight into the human need for rest, reflection, and regeneration in a time when anxiety, concern, and fear permeate the contemporary culture.
In this relatable book, you'll learn:
- What it means to disrupt your life and why it's beneficial
- The value of living in the present moment
- How to utilize a disruptive pause
- How to keep God at the center of personal reflection
- Why you need to intentionally seek renewal and regeneration
- How to pursue refreshment in a chaotic life
Jesus laid out a counter-cultural way of life for believers. Following Christ is inherently disruptive! As believers, we will be at odds with the world because we march to the beat of a different drummer. Embrace Disruptive Christian Leadership through rest, reflection, and regeneration and turn the world upside down.

INTRODUCTION
Let’s Be Honest
I was well into therapy before I had any clue I might have some personal challenges.
After all, I thought the world would be a great place if it weren’t for everyone else. I remember occasionally being irritable and tired, but little else.
Working a rotation of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) in a hospital compelled me, along with therapy, to confront some of my frustrations, irritability, and fatigue. I was working during the week and driving one hundred miles home for the weekend.
Two or three weeks into the ten-week-long CPE experience, I drove home angry and distracted. To make the matter worse, my aggravation did not subside across the weekend. As I was about to drive back to the hospital, my wife, Rebecca, told me, If you’re going to be this way every time you come home, just stay there.
Rebecca helped me realize I had some personal work to do.
God has called you into various roles, and He has called me to companion with all sorts of people in different capacities. I’ve performed professional ministry work with youth. I’ve pastored a number of different types of people, as far east as Maryland and as far south as Texas. Truthfully, I haven’t always done it very well. To be honest, some of my ministerial work was just short of disastrous.
I earned a couple of degrees as a nontraditional student—simultaneously working and trying to be an all-around good dad to two daughters. There were days when I didn’t do that well, either. None of my prior experience or education had
