ABOUT THE POET

PIECES TO REJUVENATE YOUR MIND

This piece was written as a reminder that the Great God of the universe wants to spend meaningful time with us. He has set aside a 24-hour period so that we can have a special day with him.

THE DAY OF REST

It’s the end of a hectic week

The weekend looms ahead

You wonder what you’ll do

You look forward with dread.

There’s market to be made,

Clothes to be washed

The children have activities

And you feel like you’ll be rushed.

––––––––

But what if at the end of every week

There was a day of rest;

A day to come apart, relax a while

And spend the day with the one who’s the best.

––––––––

God did make such a special day,

Since the creation of the world

It’s called the seventh, or Sabbath day

That was made for man, woman, boy and girl.

––––––––

The day of rest may come once a week,

But it’s a rejuvenating time

A day when friends and brethren meet

To have a holy ‘lime.’

Yes, we ‘hang out’ with God each week

It’s His special day, you see

A day of rest that He shares with us

That He long to share with thee.

This is my flagship piece.  Of the repertoire of poetic pieces, this is the one that I often go to/for when someone asks to do a piece for them. In 2003, I lost my best friend, at the time, to cancer.  I wrote the piece in a night when I was having a serious battle with God.  When I started writing the piece it was with the intention to vent about the passing of my friend, and yet the words that flowed brought about a different outcome. It epitomizes life and not just a singular experience.
