It appeared to be another warm, beautiful spring day here in Georgia. Many people would call another part of our country, perhaps Mississippi or Alabama, the Deep South. However, for others, Georgia was deep enough. Yes, Georgia was deep enough for this Southern family.

Now, it was spring. Yeah, spring was in the air all over the world, and especially here in this South Georgia town, and most definitely for the children. School days were now simple and easy. All tests were over and done with. All grading and scoring were complete, and no more homework for anyone. Ah, yeah! Life was good, not a worry anywhere. No concerns are at all. Life’s just fun, fun, fun! It was that time of the year, and school would soon be out for the summer. The anticipation was on every child’s mind. Actually, this was all that was currently on their minds. From the smallest child to the eldest, the excitement was building.

There in this small Georgia town lived the Omega family. Christopher was the youngest of a family of seven boys. He was wakened early Monday morning by the smell of Mama’s sausage and biscuits. Crawling over one of his older brothers and jumping on another bed, then over a second brother, Christopher scrambled out of bed and made his way to the kitchen.

He asked, Mom, what’s cooking? Something sure smells good! What is it?

His mother turned from her cooking and, with a loving smile, knelt before Christopher. Lifting his bubbly face with her hands and giving him a kiss, she stated, Oh, just something I stirred up.

Christopher smiled while jumping onto his chair and asked, For me?

His mother responded, Why, of course. Now, go and awaken your brothers before everything gets cold.

Running back to the bedroom, Christopher pushed open the door and jumped on one bed and then the other as he shouted, Wake up, wake up, breakfast is ready! Wake up, wake up! Pulling the covers off Michael, Christopher stated, I said wake up! Christopher then ran to the second bedroom, where his brothers Roy, Arthur, Clarence, and Eddie slept, and made the same demand. Wake up! Wake up! Breakfast is ready! Wake up! You need to wake up this very moment! he yelled. Did you hear me? He persisted, I really don’t like repeating myself. It’s too much like stuttering.

You know what I mean, you know what I mean, he repeated amusingly.

Yeah, yeah, yeah! replied Arthur while placing one leg out of bed, and then the other. Lifting his head as he rubbed both eyes, Clarence interposed, What’s with all the noise, and, Christopher, who made you the battery-powered alarm clock?

All the adolescents, now up and making a very noisy, simultaneous dash for the bathroom, made it an ordinary day for this large Omega household. Without all the pushing and shoving, yapping and yelling, it would not be a typical school morning. It would not be a school day in the Omega residence. Not at all.

With everyone out of bed and sitting at the
