About this ebook

After DNA evidence is lost, a domino-effect of politics becomes a trial sure to set two defendants free on technicality. But defendant Barry Sych turns into a murder mystery one day before trial. And legal fingers are pointing at their very own prosecutor!

Conspiracy becomes its own trial, charging a top attorney and a crime-rhyming poet. A videotape with mysteriously missing audio causes a once celebrated prosecutor to experience her greatest defense attorney rival, now as their client.

Karma’s Twist is a courtroom handshake, between both sides, to defeat both political nightmares: innocence punished and justice not served. It’s another ‘street fight on a chessboard’ with courtroom war-king Miles Ahead, the Jury Whisperer, a top prosecutor, a Mirror with Hallucinations, and the Checkmate Queen. As trial is set for Conspiracy, is the law finally catching up to serial killer Karma? Or will its players find themselves too close to its target than anyone is ready to realize?

Jwyan C. Johnson

Years ago, author and award-winning poet Jwyan C. Johnson wrote the script to a cartoon. The story starts off with a police chase to a giant dictionary: the home of our vocabulary words. Cops break down the cover, and they all rush in with their weapons drawn. And as they move around inside this book, we learn that they’re looking for one specific word: a simple 9-lettered noun. It has been bragging about its countless offenses committed against our society, against mankind. Surprising unarmed, and not dangerous, this specific word simply turns us against each other.Detectives follow the "alphabetical” directions to the right page, the right column and the right row, only to discover that this word has disappeared! Nowadays this divisive word lives inside our minds if we let it! The accomplished mystery writer reveals that "ignorance” was the word the police were after. The creative writings of Jwyan C. Johnson aim to biblically "protect and serve” the mind state because "ignorance is still at large in our society!” And with his latest kingdom-seeking contribution, Christian Parables, there are some places where ignorance no longer resides so we can win back each other.

    Karma's Twist - Jwyan C. Johnson

    Chapter 1

    Poetic Justice

    [Knock] [Knock]

    "Poet?"

The artist watches the voice enter inside the interrogation room to join him.

I’m Detective Corey. And I have some questions for you.

I’d prefer answers, Poet responds. What am I doing here? I have the same right to protest as everyone else in that crowd! But your political cowards arrested only me to scare away the inspiration.

"Inspiration? Poet you are here because you’re facing a sentence you DON’T want to rhyme. You’re facing a life sentence."

    What are you talking about?

I’m talking about a little too much… poetic justice

A confused Poet watches the detective holding a familiar paper to explain.

"Fixed Marriage is your poem which animates the invisible pain inside Mrs. Verbal Abuse. And if I may:

    He made my birth apologize

He made me serve a hollow life

He was the tear in my ear that’s kept my worth monopolized for years.

But shallow eyes aren’t cleared for everything

No one’s geared to see the wedding ring he placed on my mind…"

Detective Corey stops reading to stare at the artist.

"Poet your rhymes continue even off its pages with sounds similar to my investigation! Years ago a struggling schoolboy tested for a learning disability. A professional discovered Attention Deficit Disorder. So this schoolboy solved his academic mystery which should have ended all the verbal abuse from his father. But it actually got worse. Dad even rebuked his son’s learning condition as a demonic possession. And the verbal abuse got so bad… the kid ended his life with a razor blade. He even left an apology letter to his brainwasher dad."

Poet tears up but listens on.

"A year later someone broke into dad’s house, tied him to a chair, and cut him slightly but effective enough for father-of-the-year to bleed to death. And during dad’s demise, this burglar attached headphones to dad’s ears playing the same relentless name-calling on high volume. Medical examiners found a single paper pushed deep down his throat. That paper was this poem. Talk."

"Are you a real detective," Poet taunts. Anyone can download this poem from off my website.

But not anyone can download a copy with your autograph.

I sign a lot of my work.

"Maybe you signed a copy… for Karma?"

    "Karma? The serial killer?"

    So you’ve heard of him?

    Yeah I read the papers.

How about an exclusive statement beyond those newspaper pages.

Wait, Poet replies in confusion." You think I know Karma?"

    "I think you ARE Karma."

Poet stares in confusion as the detective recites more of the poem:

I need a divorce to break this Fixed Marriage

I need a divorce to resurrect my inner child’s carriage

I need full custody if you’ll be judging me with fairness

Because so much of me has since perished…

Detective Corey stops reading and continues.

"You rhyme on and off your pages with crime scenes like this one... Karma. You secretly use the pen and the sword! But yes I’m a real detective. And like I said, you’re facing a sentence you DON’T want to rhyme: a life sentence. Take a look at that file and feel the familiar rhythms. I get the feeling you’ll change your mind about talking."

Detective Corey exits the interrogation room.

I took a shot. Detective Corey announces.

Indeed, Erin Powers replies. "I can see why the Clue Queen only partners with you! Thanks for stopping by to do this."

    No problem. Good luck!

Erin looks around and secretly turns off the audio in
